All publishers do it, so therefore all publishers have to, and everything from food to cars is sold as a picture perfect product with picture perfect people enjoying that product so I can't really criticise Ubisoft or any publisher for doing this. As much gameplay footage (with graphics as it will actually be released) as possible is the key to retaining the confidence of your customers.

What is whataboutism? They could actually make a game that looks appealing and then use actual gameplay to build up the hype.

Fortunately for Companies, the majority of people buying things sight unseen are not as educated consumers as you and I, hence, why there is a marketing strategy to do so this way, otherwise... they would not be doing it.

Because every scene of trailer is analyzed by specialist so that we see a majority of what we will have at the realease. So for example even with the mention "pre-alpha in-game footage" you still get a little idea of what will be the bullet damage, in which direction the dev team decided to go. I don't talk about graphics because it's another point.
The first part of your sentence is correct but you make ia conflictive remark with your second paragraph.

So you want me to pay for the game and if I don't like it, loose my money but I have a right to criticize it? Sorry my friend, I don't consider that being an educated consumer. Perhaps giving away 60 dollars is chump change to you but it is not for me... more so because it is a matter of principal for me.

If you need to pay for something and play it until you finished to form an opinion, then the problem is yours... I only need about 20 minutes to half an hour of gameplay to realize that what I am playing is an unfinished turd. That, along with the multiple gameplay videos on the internet, ie: real gameplay videos and not trailers, is enough to understand if the game will be a game I like or another dumb down, unfinished ported to PC game.

Well, this would be marketing suicide and I don't expect any Company wanting to make money will use it... so I am not blaming UBI here.

After all, it is up to us to read between the lines and have the spine to wait for real videos or gameplay to make our decision... we do have to take more responsability for our actions if we want them to do so themselves.

I love what they are doing... the open world/exploration/character design will look better in third person and the shooting/aiming will look better in first person, shows off the gun animations better and hey, gun porn right xD

I don't care as long as there's competitive tactical multiplayer and no invisibility etc
