    Cross-Platform Play

My GF and I are looking at Pre-Order. I already have the PC Sleeper Agent, and we're looking at her Pre-Order. With Christmas comes our XBone, and we're curious if The Division will have Cross-Platform Grouping. To be honest, so far, The Division is really the only reason I'm even looking at an XBone. (Well, that and since Rocksteady hosed up Arkham Knight on PC.) I know the Android App has the Drone Class, but if we buy her the XBone, will she be able to group with me on the PC? Or should we just get her the PC Version? I've Tweeted both @Ubisoft and @TheDivisionGame several times and still haven't gotten an answer.

They haven't announced any Cross-Platform Play and I doubt they will use such a feature for The Division. The Mobile App was canceled, it gave teams an unfair advantage in Dark Zones. If you want to play with her you'll need to buy on the same platform.

There won't be any cross platform. It is difficult to balance PvP anyway to balance PC with Console is nearly impossible.

PC and Xbox One will be likely as the game will be optimized for Windows 10 and there is a Windows 10 update going live on console eventually. But Sony to Microsoft platforms and vice versa, probably not.

If it hasn't already been a major promotional point at the last two E3s, then it ain't gonna happen.

Sadly, as much as Microsoft has come on recently, I feel that you're right.

I would never say never, but like previously stated probably not... I wouldnt get my hopes up, but I agree it would be pretty nice to see.

Can someone please explain why cross platform play would be unbalanced in this game? As its an RPG it's about thinking about your moves and coordinating with your team mates so it doesn't really matter what platform you are using. Even in PvP I don't see one platform having any overwhelming advantage over the others in terms of gameplay.

    What am I not seeing?

Sadly, it's not really anything to do with the game that's being played. It really just comes down to a couple of things.

Arguably most importantly, Microsoft and Sony are here to make money. By allowing cross-platform play, they are essentially saying "we don't care which games console you buy, as long as you're having fun"; and while that is a very nice idea, it just wouldn't stand up as a business model.

With regards to one having an advantage over another, it comes down to peripherals. With PC, you can be incredibly intricate with your movements and aiming, and would therefore have a huge advantage over the less mobile console players - so that rules out that option. Playstation versus Xbox though is basically a lot more pernickety. Assuming that the two consoles ran on the same code, and so were instantly compatible with each other; it then comes down to the minutiae of each platform. An example of which is the controllers. While xbox and playstation controllers are similar, they have very different features - for example Playstation has their touchpad for a quick response and faster selection, and Xbox has super-sensitive vibration motors, allowing for more responsive feedback. Both will argue against each other that one might give an advantage over the other and therefore by pitting the two platforms against each other, you would be opening up a situation where one console might be better than the other at various tasks; this would be unfair on the gamers.
But really, it all comes down to licensing and money. They just wouldn't do it as it would just eat away their profits.
Hence why The Division has Xbox One "exclusives".
