Like many MMO's, developers have recognized the love that people have of their Avatar looking a certain way.
It took companies like Blizzard a few expansions to actually implement it and newer MMO's took notice and included it from the start.
I'm wondering if the developers are ahead of the curve when it comes to transmogrification? Players will want it and in my opinion it should have been developed into the game as players will call for it if it's not.
So will this game give us the ability to transmogrify gear as we are playing? Because I know first hand the one thing that sucks about loot based games is equipping a stronger item and having it ruin the look of your character.
I haven't seen this discussed so I wanted to make a thread about it.
In theory, this is a very good system and it works for games like Diablo, but for a game like The Division I dont think it would work in that a MOLLE pouch will always look like a MOLLE pouch. You cant change it to look like something else, to some degree. In the same respect though, this may come into play where the item quality is concerned. You may be able to find, for this instance, a SCAR-L of the five varying qualities each with different damage outputs. Its still a SCAR-L, its just more powerful. Same can be said for gear. Its also possible this might be where crafting comes into play.
I do know there will be camo patterns, but what I dont know yet is their implementation. Whether its per item such as Diablos dyes or if its an 'over coat' like Call of Duty.
Well I don't know the extent of gear types and what we will look like and how many different styles of gear there will be, but I'm assuming if we are changing pants, jackets, hats, gloves and things of that nature that perhaps there will be a system in place to transmogrify these items.
I can see certain get up's like Camo gear, or all black gear, or Soldier type gear being acquired. Maybe, maybe not. I don't know how this will shape up.
I can also see restrictions being applied which could be disappointing but can be understandable. Perhaps if I have a SMG you don't want me to transmogrify it into the look of an Assault Rifle. Who knows?
I just know that if I have a beanie on my head and it has an armor value, and I find a baseball hat that has a higher armor value, and I want to maintain my beanie look, it would be cool to be able to transmogrify the item to maintain the look I enjoy seeing. Then again, I have no clue how gear drops will work so I'm basing my thoughts here from my experience with other games like Diablo or Warcraft.
Thanks for the response.
I'm looking forward to this game!
Well you can wear clothes and you can wear armor/gear. The difference is, that the clothes like T-Shirt, hat, trousers or boots have no impact on the stats, so you can wear anything you want for the whole duration of the character Progression. Based on the Reports you have 5 armor-slots. Chest, gloves, leg, knee pads and the gas mask. Those will be added to your general look and those will decide how much armor you have etc and blend in with the clothes you wear.
This means several things - there (probably) will not be full-body armor like in Fallout or the usual fantasy games where you can go really fancy with your armor and make yourself look like a menacing warmachine that is more tank than person. This is Tom Clancy - a semi-realistic game and therefore a more tuned-down armor system and IMO this system doesn't need the Transmogrification option because you can customize and probably craft your clothes the way you want it and the armor-gear you put on just blends in.
It's fine transmogrifying the gear like clothes and armour, but weapons shouldn't be.
Like I've mentioned in other threads, it's great, you can make your unique character.
Cosmetic slot, and the actual slot for stats for a certain armour. However for weapons it shouldn't be.
I've seen in Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn this cosmetic slot thing, however that's all, they don't have cosmetic slots for weapons and that's how I like it and suggest it.
