    The division server

    Hello!
I really like The Division, but I have just but The only one preocupation wich I have is The fact wich The Division isn't a "normale" game, because we can only play online, we can play a normal game(like a fallout) too among 20 years, because we just need The game and we will play, but if Ubisoft will close the server online of The Division we will can't play anymore, a lot of money in a game wich if will not have success could can be cancelled, what do you think about it? Will Ubisoft close The server? How does it function ? Thanks to everyone

The game has been in development for close to, if not longer than, five years. Alot of resources, time, money, and love has gone into crafting The Division. The team at MASSIVE will support the title for as long as it remains profitable. If, for whatever reason, the game fails to meet expectations or falls below the mark, changes will be made, absolutely. With that being said, its been public knowledge that the company wishes to support The Division with atleast a 10 year life cycle, which means The Division will be an evolving IP. What it is at release date, will not be what it is in ten years.

Yes they will eventually close the servers. It may be in 5 years, 10 years, or in 20 however its highly unrealistic to believe they will be online forever. Just play it for as long as you find it enjoyable and move on. Hopefully this is good enough that in 5, 10, or 20 years TD 2 will come out and everyone will migrate to that.

    That's a lot of speculation.

I'm hopeful that you'll be right...but, at the end of the day - Ubi will make that call.

The oldest game on last year's server shut-down was close to 8 years, and it sold over a million copies. The second oldest was 7 years in, and it had sold over 2 million copies.
Most of the games were at 6 years.

World of Warcraft just celebrated their 10th anniversary and their subscription base has dropped by 8+ million users. The biggest thing Division has working against it, is its not an established franchise yet. The biggest thing it has working for it, is its an established brand. Only time will tell at this point. From what I played at E3 though, I think the game will do very well for itself to the right audience.

Just look at Final Fantasy XI, its been released in 2002. They announced an last major update that will come out soon, it still works for ps2 with crossplay to pc. So i am sure that the division will at least be supported for 10 years.

for this game to keep on going for at least 10+ years, it's all about the type of content they release for TD. Like if the problem spreads to different parts of america and some how it spreads to other parts of the world.

Any word if this game will rely on Ubi servers or peer-to-peer connections?

Do we know if multiplayer elements will be housed on Ubisoft's servers or on a player host?

I have heard that Destiny relies on peer-to-peer connections for multiplayer and the Bungie server only stores meta data (games saves, inventory, etc). Will this game be the same, or will we be using Ubisoft server hardware when we're gaming?

I'm hoping more of the load will be on the Ubisoft server since Destiny has serious problems with cheaters using lag to gain advantages in multiplayer.
