well, in the case of the Knights, it's because only large and strong men could wear the armor and wield a sword. sort of the same thing for the Vikings, though for them and the Samurai, there could be exceptions and have smaller more lithe/speedy/'spritely warriors. not so for the Knight.

damn Monte Python...I can't write the word Knight without saying Ke-nigg-et in my head.

Well the players are the warden class, largest class in the game, plus people were shorter in the middle ages so its like a linebacker in a suit of armor fighting dudes a little more than 5 ft tall.

    For general purposes:

    For gameplay purposes:

Probably so that it's easier for players to see each other and not get lost in a sea of AI.

It has a lot to do with game play and immersion. We are the 1%. We are the heroes that sway battles. That is why.

At first I thought they were tiny too but if you pay close attention they're almost the same size

The first thing I thought looking at the heroes were how they looked like Titans compared to the other characters. It makes you feel powerful and significant, as well as makes you stand out in a gameplay situation.

What annoys me about the npcs is that the Samurai npcs look exactly like the knight npcs. Samurais didn't use shields or chain mail and the lessor dudes would generally fight with spears.
