Well really im not sure how people think things have gotten worse and the bar is lower and such because lets be honest games look 200% better then what they used too for starters. When ghost recon first released in 2001 it was, you guessed it 60 bucks, desert siege the same and island thunder the same. So for that title we got the game and 2 expansions for 180 bucks and along with that a grand total of 5 patches that weren't included in the game and most major bugs werent fixed by them. The game still one of my fondest gaming times that spanned 5 years almost still looked like crap, flat and mechanics that were simple and in some ways barbaric, still one of the best games i played if not the best at that time.
Now what has changed, well these days we pay 60 bucks for a game now 14 years later and last time i checked that's 0 inflation despite development cost and more and were still paying the same for a game. We get games that look better, perform better, far more fluid movements, more natural mechanics, more immersive and more and yet were complaining about a game that isnt even released yet. Also changed is more studios do DLC's instead of expansions for 10-20 bucks instead of making us wait 1-2 years for a full games worth of content in an expansion for 60 bucks but lets be honest we still spend that as most do 3 DLC's for a title and there's less wait time for content. I agree when some say it wasnt worth buying or waiting for because they all cant be winners and some completely flop or the game has since flopped by then and those who bought the multiplayer content are left playing alone.
Whats the milking gripe, if you want to look at a game that is milking people dry and not even leaving a drop of blood is the ones in charge of the economy over at ghost recon phantoms. This is not a AAA title but F2P until wednesday and becomes P2P ( forced griefing of the non playing new players ) in there next patch. This is a game that had offered a grand total of 5 new maps in 4 years and 20+ limited edition P2W guns and gear Oplenty. So if you want to complain about milking then head over to the forums there and do it because this game isnt even out yet and were already worried about milking gamers. We have no idea how much content this game will have but i have an idea its going to be alot of single/coop player content that's added too through DLC's for continued fun and who knows with multiplayer being unannounced yet. The moral of this story is weather you believe it or not games today offer more in quality and content in some cases then games of the past and they still dont charge more since ive been a gamer. They have only changed how they release content and realized that sometimes the 5 buck DLC is more appealing then a 60 buck expansion for many people and in some cases gets you new content much sooner then a full blown expansion.
EDIT- Ghost Recon was 49.99 MSRP in 2001 and with inflation in 15 years has gone up 10 bucks for games, still not too bad all things considered and wish it was that low for many other things like cost of living just saying.
I hear you brother,Originally Posted by ecma4 Go to original post
I got all the DLC for the PS3 & 360..and even
helped out some buds to get it..just so we could
roll some Palace (Best looking Map Ever).
Like Cortex said this was brought up in our workshop in Paris
We did voice our concerns..so you are not alone Ecma4
DLC will always cost, and guys like you and I who love Ghost Recon
will buy it..lets just hope its worth it!
Its nothing more then a moneygrab. let them pretend its the orginal Xbox days and release a full game.Originally Posted by ecma4 Go to original post
I'm not going to end up paying $80+ for a full game. its a joke.
80$ hell we already pay 65-69$ just for a new game. whats 20$ more. Now I hear ya I think its crappy but I dont mind it as long as its maintained and the servers stay monitored so we have non-laggy and clean game play. I do think they should reduce the cost of the DLC's especially after six months or so, like GRFS they should be free now!Originally Posted by Ghost Sniper33 Go to original post
Only time will tell what we get and how much it costs.
Happy Hunting Ghosts
Muddvain Out!
sure whats $20 more, then its whats another $10, another $20. where does it stop? Why is it hard to release a full game anymore?Originally Posted by Muddvain Go to original post
Well you can thank the people who first started adding DLC content and that being the day expansions mostly died and publishers realized they could develop a complete game, slit it in 4s and release the first one as the game and the other 3 parts as DLC. I mean think ab out it, you don't even have to finish a game to release it as long as its completely stable and playable and then they can sell the finished content later for 10 bucks a piece getting sometimes double what they would have gotten releasing the full game. This is the new business model of AAA gaming and its not pretty and it encourages gouging a bit from your title but there's no changing it. We as players who love a game buy it knowing its going to be another 30 or 40 bucks to get all the playable DLC content but want to play the game so we accept it. The only way to change it is for 90% or more to say and do not buy the game knowing its going to have dlc and try a mass dlc banning but that wont happen ever. So the solution is to either pay the cash and enjoy the game and dlc or just quit gaming and find a new hobby because you dont want to feed the dlc beast anymore.Originally Posted by Ghost Sniper33 Go to original post
I agree there might be some push back and with some games i might wait until i can get a deal on the gold edition or dlc all included package but then its waiting until the game has died out. When it comes to this game if you wait until that point your friends are over it with both missions and multiplayer and just becomes a single player title on the cheap. So i feel stuck between a rock and a hard place with a game like this because its either enjoy it fresh with friends as the dlc content comes out or enjoy it alone much cheaper. They know this too and they know a good chunk of the market share are your day one buyers who want to play with there friends and get the dlc content there friends get to enjoy. They sort of exploit that factor when it comes to the dlc business model and for better or worse its far better then there FTP market share despite making more money stripping as much as they can from gamers. So if i gotta pay 5 bucks every 3 months for a new map pack or added missions and such so be it, its more fun then a virtual P2W gun that doesn't even provide content, lesser of 2 evils my friend.Originally Posted by Ghost Sniper33 Go to original post
All we have to go on is the past. Look at GR:FS. What makes you think Ubisoft will keep up support? The last update/support came 4 months after release. That is completely unacceptable. Then they have the audacity to beg people for $100 for "platinum package" (or what ever they call it)?Originally Posted by Muddvain Go to original post
I am continuously amazed at what Rockstar does for the GTAV community. Free updates after free updates. I understand the need to make money, but how about, after a DLC has been released for 6 months, it is then given away for free? Look at what the DLC did to the GR:FS community!
What about making money by releaseing a compete game that people want to pay? rather then fleacing the fans, who are willing to buy on day one?Originally Posted by meathead_79 Go to original post
