So, what I have to say would be probably be spread throughout different topics, so I figured I'd post my thoughts and concerns in one topic.
My one concern, IS PLEASE GOD DON'T SCREW THIS UP!!!! Sorry, but UBI has screwed up AC, R6, and GR (with FS). I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. But UBIs track record with classic, critically acclaimed IPs has been putrid as of recent (not to mention the tainting of the Tom Clancy brand). Please listen to feedback from GRFS and these initial reactions from the reveal.
Now, my first thought is that GRW looks like a playable ARMA for me. Good story/setting (Classic Tom Clancy plot), Open world, good animations/voice acting, return of actual Ghosts (Not technologically evolved mech-humans), visually stunning (Was feeling like I was in FC4 for a second). This looks like it could be AWESOME from what they've released and are stating, but what is really concerning me is what they're not saying...
My thoughts are that the 'open world' aspect isn't as open as people are thinking. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're given X,Y,or Z mission and you can choose any of them in any order. You're then given a series of option to complete the mission, something like a planning stage, (Stealth, Action, Diversion, etc) and not a truly open world experience. Once in mission you're given a certain AO that you're allowed to play in (If any of you played Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising that's what I'm thinking). By the way, I'm totally ok with this style of mission setup. Just not agreeing with the GTA comparison.
Another thing I'm worried about is that they're going in the opposite direction of FS; instead of making them super advanced soldiers, they're making them too peasant like and merc looking. Not saying that it doesn't fit in with their overall mission and setting, but it's still a Ghost Recon game. Still want the ability to look like a SpecOps soldier. And on the topic of appearance, if you're going to put in customization don't overdo it like R6V. SC:B did it perfectly and didn't allow you to go too crazy.
My third point in Single Player. PLEASE UBI DON'T MAKE THIS A MP centric game. This game will have so much more replayability and accesibility if it is designed primarily for Single Player. Although I read about drop-in/out, and that is awesome. Just don't make MP a primary area of concern. Personally, I believe there will be no PVP/adversial multiplayer, and UBI will just keep supporting GR:P. Only a co-op/ drop-in out will be implemented.
Return to classic GR. Personally, I'd love to see some main Ghosts return (Mitchell, Ramirez, Diaz, etc), although I'm not opposed to a new cast of ghosts. Kozak and Pepper were the only ones I personally enjoyed from FS.
The last thing I can think of, is please limit the amount of scripted events. That will hurt the free-form gameplay (what happened with SC:B).
In closing, just make this a game to remember. Don't do what you did to R6. Everybody was excited for Siege, and now a lot of extremely disappointed die-hard R6 fans realize that Siege is just a Counter Strike clone, with a better engine and visuals.
The game is totally open world, there's no restricted AO's or anything of that nature. As someone who has played a lot of ArmA recently, specifically as a helicopter pilot, I can tell you that the very first thing I did when we sat down to play the game at Paris was ask the dev tester "where's the nearest helicopter". I then proceeded to fly around huge parts of the map. We were flying for so long without finding an edge to the map that the other guys in the helo kindly asked that we turn around so they could actually, you know, play the game... LOL!
It's huge, it's open, it's dynamic and systemic, and it's amazing.
As for the look, this was covered by some other players in the player customization thread. Special forces around the world will almost always dress like locals in order to minimize their impact and obviousness. That's all that is happening with the Ghosts of Wildlands. Why wear tactical operator clothing when doing an extended mission behind enemy lines? If you need to go incognito wouldn't it be easier to simply wear normal clothing under your equipment, and ditch your stuff in a dumpster to quickly blend into a crowd if needed? Yup, absolutely. I love the look that they're going with, it feels very authentic as to what I imagine Ghosts would do. They are the best of the best special forces operators that the US military has to offer in the Tom Clancy universe, so they get whatever equipment flexibility they want.
Cooperative MP is one of the big key design principals around Wildlands. However Ubi_Jax has stated that offline single player with AI Ghost squad-mates is going to be possible, so they'll have to make that system work well or there's no point in even doing it. I'm pretty sure they're aware of this, as we gave them some feedback on AI command/control systems. We can't go to much into it, but I think we covered some extremes and gave them a good amount of feedback to work with.
Hope this sheds a little light in your questions and concerns!
P.S. After playing the new TERROHUNT game mode in Rainbow Six Siege, I'm not even mad about some of the less-than-popular changes that have been made to that franchise. I can see myself wasting way way way more time than I should playing TERROHUNT with friends.
Don't waste your money on this game by paying more for something they can't and won't deliver. Game been out over a week and tons of people still have not gotten there stuff from pre order. I got the gold sad I beat the game before I got my products. The support personal rude as **** and they say that they own us
