One of the things I liked about the Tom Clancy franchise in the early 2000's is that there were subtle hints at a connected universe in some of the of the titles, For example the the sinking of the Clarence E Walsh is featured in both SC:Chaos Theory and GR:2. Or the news reporter Morris Odell who appears in almost all the news report cut scenes in Clancy games of the time. EndWar took a more direct approach when they made members of R6 and GR field commanders.
But lets be honest the only real consistent elements in GR are Scott Mitchell and up until Future Soldier Joe Ramirez (R.I.P). The stories are all over the place, and there's no real sense of a timeline and the aforementioned hints that connected SC, R6 and GR (and yeah even HAWX ugh!) in small parts have pretty much disappeared from recent titles.
I think building a strong lore would greatly benefit the GR series, and maybe the TCU brand on a whole, where better to do this then in a open world like Wildlands. And while i know its way too early for any of the ideas i'm about to mention to even be taken into consideration, I figure mentioning them here couldn't hurt. (*Disclosure: Most of theses suggestions depend on what kind of timeline is established)
- Missions where your team is tasked with supporting Sam Fisher's Fourth (or Third) Echelon operations in the area. theses missions could also set up plot for the next Splinter Cell title and add the possibility of cross game saves.
- Joint Ops with a Bodark unit (a way to bring back larger co-op) to hunt rouge Voron agents (or vice versa) or even better a secondary campaign with a Bodark unit as the main protagonists.
- Bring back a few old characters like Logan Keller, Alicia Diaz, Kestral, and others from around the TCU and give them crazy twist, like Diaz gets recruited by Sam Fisher for Fourth Echelon or Keller joining Artemis (PMC from Hawx) after leaving rainbow as a contractor doing work in Bolivia.
Then again maybe I'm just talking ****
Well, the TCU is pretty connected already.Originally Posted by OROCHI SETSU Go to original post
Examples-
In Vegas 2 you are accompanied on a mission by a Splinter Cell agent
In HAWX the first mission is supporting Scott Mitchell's Ghost unit in Mexico during the events of GRAW 1
This one is more of an Easter egg but the Rainbow operative Emilio Narino was a CIA assassin (Splinter Cell Program was joint CIA-NSA) and is a "composed marksman" with "the ability to sneak into positions without being seen" I honestly think he's a Splinter Cell
In GRFS Scott Mitchell is lead/coordinator of all the Ghost units
In GRFS, the HAWX unit supports Hunter Team in (I think) Russia
Basically all the End War games (though I'm sure they're non-Canon)
In HAWX 2 you assist a Voron agent in South Africa during the same Raven's Rock coup in Russia
Lastly I don't remember which mission but Rainbow operatives were in HAWX 2
Also I know they were just suggestions but some of your suggested events aren't Canonically sound. If Wildlands takes place after 2021, no character could be members of Artemis because it's leader was killed by HAWX members in 2021
Secondly, again if it take place after Future Soldier, Raven's Rock (group Bodark is in) is dissolved with its leaders killed.
The Voron thing works if it is Future Soldier but it if is current working with Voron wouldn't make much sense consider the events of Blacklist and Conviction
The helping 4th Echelon sounds cool though.
Ok so he actually meant a few years from now like, 3 or 4. Because Future Soldier was also advertised as a few years from now and that few years turned out to be 14 years in the future. So since it is this close to present day I guess that means no optical camo, no sensor grenades, or no on weapon HUD. However I'm expecting Cross-Com to appear in some way because it appeared in GRAW 2 and that took place in 2015. Since it also isn't in 2024 it would be cool to play a Predator Team with Joe Ramierez and before Scott Mitchell got promoted to General.Originally Posted by Cortexian0 Go to original post
I agree that we should have some other non-GR characters make more than cameos, it would be nice. Kestrel appearing and helping us- YES. They could throw in Sam or Briggs also but I'm fine with just Kestrel. And the PMC thing does make a lot of sense but I honestly think we should stay away from PMC's with the Clancy games since they have somehow become a mainstream topic (CODAW). Besides, the government in the game supposedly is hiring a military force called Unidad.Originally Posted by OROCHI SETSU Go to original post
I've wanted something like this for a while now.
I'd love to see a game where you've got the all out kinetic ground warfare of Ghost Recon, the stealth infiltration of Splinter Cell, the tactical counterterrorism of Rainbow Six and the aerial combat of HAWX. It's split into four parts basically. They all have their own unique operations that come together to tell one huge coherent story.
The missions could crossover. So for example you could be infiltrating an embassy that has been taken over by terrorists as Sam Fisher to steal information and you could see the Rainbow Six team running through the hallways, taking out the terrorists and rescuing hostages.
But those crossover missions only occur if you complete certain objectives in a previous mission. The story could adapt to your choices. So you could be playing as the Ghost Recon team who have been assigned to take out the leader of the terrorists who take over the embassy. If you fail the objective, the terrorists take over the embassy, leading into a mission where Rainbow Six have to rescue the hostages. But if you find intelligence on classified information stored on a server bank within the embassy, it gets passed over to Fourth Echelon and Sam Fisher has to infiltrate the embassy to get the information.
You could successfully assassinate the terrorist leader AND gather the intelligence which only opens up the Splinter Cell mission.
I really would love to see Ubisoft tackle an idea like that. I think it would be really interesting.
I've always been confused where Rainbow 6 fell though. Like If 4th Echelon And the Ghost fall under the department of defense (which they've stated they do) Rainbow seems to fall under the State Department, Homeland Security, or the Department of Justice. I can see a joint op being possible but it's always seemed that GR and SC are more compatible for a crossover (at least in my opinion)
Also two things i just noticed
1- Mitchell was only a Major in GRFS in 2025 but was a General in Endwar which took place in in 2020, I don't think endwar is cannon at all. and if it's not cannon that means that Hawx isn't either as elements of that game leads into Endwar.
2- The very first mission you play as Ghost team Hunter is set in Bolivia, that right there could open a world of connections to this game. And since Ravens Rock had ties to Bolivia in GRFS it is plausible that they were there long before those events took place. Therefore GIMME SOME BODARK!!
(absolutely loving this convo btw)
Best way to explain it would be the Ghosts are pretty much the Green Berets, whereas Rainbow would be more akin to a worldwide SWAT team.
The Ghosts are the direct action arm of the Tom Clancy universe and Rainbow are the counterterrorism unit. Whilst the Ghosts take part in open warfare and insurgency's, Rainbow takes part in hostage rescuing and eliminating terrorist threats.
I don't think the Ghosts would be called in to storm an opera house that has been taken over by terrorists and Rainbow wouldn't be called in to assassinate a terrorist in the tribal regions of Afghanistan.
Just to further expand on this, it takes place approximately 4 years from now. So think 2020 or around then and you wont be far off.Originally Posted by Cortexian0 Go to original post
so it's true then, if this takes place in 2020 or around then, Endwar can't be cannon.Originally Posted by Ubi_Jax Go to original post
rooster82 basically got it, prior to 2024 Ghost Recon was a division of the U.S. Army 5th Special Forces Group (Green Berets). After 2024 they were reformed into their own division in the Army know as the GST (Group for Specialized Tactics). 3rd Echelon was a part NSA so yes DOD, Splinter Cell program specifically was joint CIA/NSA. 4th Echelon seems pretty much the same except more clandestine counter terror. Rainbow Six is overseen by the UN and NATO, I don't think any part of the U.S. government had any specific control over the unit.Originally Posted by OROCHI SETSU Go to original post
So basically;
Ghosts- Assassination, Direct Action, Special Reconnaissance, Unconventional Warfare, Counter Insurgency
4th Echelon/Splinter Cells- Counter Intelligence, Espionage, Assassination, Intelligence Collection, Counter Terrorism
RAINBOW- Counter Terrorism, Hostage Rescue, Sabotage
I totally agree that GR and SC are more compatible for crossovers than R6 and GR or SC and R6.
1. Yes the Scott Mitchell rank is an inconsistency, if End War is considered canon. However there are so many conflicting things that it's best to count it non-canon. However, HAWX is canon because the game overtly crosses over with GRAW, GRAW 2 and GRFS.
2. Gahhhh you win :P But seriously that's a very good point. And the group Unidad could be linked to Raven's Rock- they were ultranationalist and Unidad sounds an awful lot like 'United'. Main reason I don't want Bodark is that it's kinda one of those military game clichés- U.S. vs Russia. The ties of drugs and weapons could be what led Predator Team from Bolivia to Nicaragua, where they were killed.
Ubisoft make it happen!
So 2019-2020, great. I assume End War is still being taken a non-canon if it is set in this time period. I also kinda hope End War timeline isn't canon becuase it also had the dissolution of RAINBOW in 2019. So nice to know.Originally Posted by Ubi_Jax Go to original post
BTW (definetly wrong forum but) when does Terrorist Hunt in Rainbow Sox Siege take place? (you don't need to awnser if it's too off topic)
We may be unravelling the plot before the game is even out 0.0
Also, I enjoy these kind of story related conversations![]()
