Am I the only one who is absolutely fine with just 3 existing factions?

IF we only ever had 3 factions I would be fine with that
Remember that this is primarily a sword fighting game. You need historical-ish factions that had/were known to have a robust martial background in sword fighting. Spartans were not known for that. They used spears in phalanx formation almost exclusively. Romans would be a better choice, but only slightly better. They were almost exclusivly sword and shield. Meso-amercian factions didn't even have steel and wore very light armor.

Samurai and knights have a very parallel history and make great counterparts. Vikings can fit this mold since knights owe their fighting tradition from vikings and other similar germanic tribes.

You are right in every aspect except the fact that this is a game, not a interactive documentary. But yes, your right i hope the development find out a solution or else we will only see 3 factions

Of course absolute historical accuracy is not required for this game, but it should go in line with what we have already. Aztecs were not known for sword fighting. They would look silly in this game. This game also has a medieval/darkage time period going on and both spartans and romans would feel out of place imo (not to mention their limited of sword fighting background).

I think the best candidates are a medieval Muslim and Chinese faction.

Don't let the game fool you, it is not historically accurate, and these cultures did not all exist at the same time. For example, the knight is clearly using a 15th century sword, while the viking age ended in the 11th century.

The idea that knightly combat developed from vikings is weird, considering that when the viking began their raids on Europe, knights already existed. They both however did develop out of Germanic and other later Roman period barbarian martial traditions.

Anyway, while I really do love the Spartans (just check my username), I doubt we'll see them. Maybe if this game is a success we'll see a sequel that adds another culture or two. There are plenty to choose from, and the mechanics presented would work equally well for swordplay as they would for the shield/spear combination we see from a lot of warrior cultures throughout history. But I'm happy with 3, let those three be polished and perfected and we'll see what happens down the line.

Its not that weird actually. Normans were direct descendants of viking invaders, and they settled in France, Britain and Italy. Knights from most northern Europe and Scandinavian would have undoubtedly developed directly from vikings marital tradition. Other parts of Europe were influenced by other Germanic tribes, which had many similarities to Vikings.

Spartans, Mongols, Incas, Myans, Indians, Persian and any of the other greats I may have missed.

I understand the game is early and they have to see if it sells first. I would definitely suggest to keep doing what they are doing now - focusing on balancing (no OP cultures). Add what they can "culture wise" without damaging that balance structure.

And when game sells, if sells good. Post support DLC with more balanced cultures.
    Also, Berbers / Moors

This game has to have siege mode with a playable king. Would be amazing.

I think Spartan should be a good idea but not like as a fourth playable faction. 3 is enought for me, my opinion, same as the most opinion of many player, but Spartan should be for a survival mode. You choose your faction, samurai, knight or viking and with 3 other players, you fight against many waves of Spartans to survive. Why? Because Spartan is suppossed to be the strongest warriors of history, in the lore. It could be a serious problem to balance them and respect their lore. Moreover, they are not a minimun armored, imagine, when u fight, you cut them and they still alive? Really weird. But as a survival mode, they could be insteresting. Its still not respecting the lore (history strongest warriors and an entiry legion defeated by only 4 warriors? xD lol) but they could be insteresting in this mod or another, maybe.
