Let's try to come up with something feasible and fun to replace the mindless skill grinding, the jumps in particular.
Getting car upgrades should be combined with something fun we love doing, not something mindless and repetitive like jumps and climbs or frustratingly difficult like speeds though rush-hour traffic. Let's be honest, no matter how fun or interesting a skill, after being required to do it 100+ times per car it no longer is fun or interesting.
Most car game players want to enjoy their favorite cars, which means not always racing, but sometimes just cruising around, enjoying the scenery and their shiny, beloved car.
So one of my ideas would be this:
Freeride cruises/races without ghosts.
- Cruising or racing from one part of the map to another. The longer distance should bring a higher chance to meet other racers on the way, maybe even on the same trip , with a guaranteed car upgrade reward based on the car's and/or player's level to keep it fun and rewarding, maybe with a higher chance for a higher lvl upgrade based on the points achieved.
- Start, Finish and checkpoints could also be dynamic, meaning as you arrive at one checkpoint a RNG would set up the next one. That way no two races and cruises would be the same.
- How about player-set checkpoints? You place your start and finish lines anywhere you want at the map. The more miles, the more points, equaling more car parts, a higher level car part or at least a higher chance for a higher lvl car part.
If you spend 1 hour on hundreds of jumps to get the exact 1, 2 or 3 car parts you want, why not spend 30 minutes on a cruise or race to get them, maybe several at once?
That way you could enjoy the cruise ride, or at least not get too frustrated about crashes in a race, while at the same time earning upgrades.
the way how to earn upgrades have to be competitive, no cruising and dynamic checkpoints, it's enough that traffic is random, but at least you know there will be less cars in the night
I think they should increase the chance of getting higher tier part according to specific conditions, so people can play less challenges when they are good enough, so it's more skill based and not purely time/rng based... higher chance the higher score, not just the platinum threshold and nothing else... maybe higher chance at day for some specific challenges like precision or speed (more traffic), higher chance in harder challenges (probably any except for jump? hehe)...

The challenging skills are fine, maybe the best upgrades should be exclusive with these, but the rest of the skill farming is just dull jump spam. Might as well turn those into enjoyable cruises.
everything... you have to do specific action which is awarded by specific amount of points, always the same, competitive... problem of jump skills is that they are too easy to get platinum in most cars... that's why I suggested increased chance for better rewards (higher lvl platinum part) in harder challenges, for example +0% jump, +10% speed/outrun, +20% climb/line, +30% precision/scramble, something like that... so people can farm jump skills until mad or do something harder with higher drop chance... this would solve problem with jumps being too easy and mindless farming taking too much time...
