Directly at the rider
Ahead of the rider at the upcoming obstacles
Somewhere else
I'm looking at the screen, duh1
So today I realized that when I'm riding along, I'm looking a little bit ahead, and my rider is a bit on the edge of my field of view. I was having trouble with the time saver on Arch Ruins, so I thought I'd try staring directly at the rider, with the track in the edge of my view. I felt like there were some advantages to each way of looking at the rider, but I'm curious what others do.
I was pretty sure of my answer, but I had to load up a track to make sure. As with most side-scrollers and even FPS and TPS in certain situations, my eyes are a bit ahead of the rider anticipating obstacles. I actually look even further forward sometimes to get my bearings on speedier tracks. My peripheral vision can take care of looking at the bike for me. It's something you don't think about much but it's very interesting.
Edit: My eyes actually move around more than I expected now that I'm paying attention. I'm looking all over the place depending on what's going on.
I think generally I probably look more ahead when I'm moving faster. I also sometimes look at the time at certain milestones when I'm trying to beat a personal best if I'm not using a ghost to compare speed.
If you answer "somewhere else" let me know where you are looking!
I tend to watch the rear tire. It helps a lot with catching the corners of obstacles. Or when you have to lightly fan the angle when leaping onto steep angles.
Well this poll at least confirms my suspicion that there was some variability in where people are looking. Hallowcore, that's exactly the kind of advantage I felt about staring directly at the rider, I think the bike/rider combination is included there but it is very interesting that your focus is even more specific on the rear tire. I can see why, as its position dictates how much you are clearing obstacles by and a lot of other things about when to lean/brake can be refined based on the rear wheel position.Originally Posted by Hallowcore Go to original post
I've found watching the rear/front tire crucial to having a good landing. In Refinery Abyss, when making the leap from one curved pipe to the other, I'm watching my front tire as it lands on the first pipe. As I jump to the next one, I'm switching between watching my back and front tire. With Casino Rooftops, the front tire on that first loop/time saver has to be just right to swing on, or it's a faceplant every time.
If I'm looking "somewhere else," it's always the ghost. Especially in Bunker matches.![]()
Usually at the upcoming obstacles or my Rider. Sometimes a quick glance from Rider to obstacle.
It's a nice question because i think that the results will be very different for everyone.
I think that... i look the static decor behind the race !!
No, seriously :
90% of the time, I look at the bike, not the rider.
10% of the time, i look ahead of the rider.
So, i vote for " somewhere else ".![]()
Easy for you to say, 99% of the time, the riders are behind you!Originally Posted by KarTanK Go to original post
