You're grounded! Go to your room! And I'm taking your Il-2 & replacing it with CFS3!

The P-47 in FB is a better fighter at alt. Ground role is about equal. They are both very capable.

I flew the Jug often and now fly the P-38 often...as the two aircraft are currently modelled the Jug gets the edge for B&Z fighter... The Jug is the more stable platform at high speed dives and elevator response. I am much more adept at hitting what I am aiming at in the Jug and the 8 .50's do a good job of ripping up enemy aircraft....
The lightnings advantages are clear at lower altitudes as it is faster there than the Jug by far. The Lightning seems to have a better zoom climb, medium and low altitude speed and descent firepower...if Oleg fixes the dispersion the Lightning will likely be the better gun platform and speeds under 600km/hr...but not now as it is currently modelled
The thing I really like about the lightning over the Jug is that it is more escapable... that is faster in a shallow sustained dive and it (the J) is faster than all its contemporary enemies at sea level as near as I can tell...that being A6M5, 109G 2 & 6 as well as the Fw 190A5...I even caught up to a Ki while ground hugging once...don't know if he was slightly damaged or not or maybe his engine was hot. The Jug is more escapable if you have 8000 meters of altitude, but online that seldom happens.
I can still put lead on target with a Jug best ...that is probably its best quality imho. I b&z w/ Fw's once in awhile and maybe that is my problem cause I don't spend lots of time in them but I find the twitch roll to cause me to miss alot even with those dratted 30mm uber cannons.

I also noticed that the Lightning collects about twice as much lead from the ground as the jug. It is wise to map commands for feathering props & selecting engines because after 2 runs on a defended ground target you can almost gaurantee one engine will be smoking and threatening to catch on fire.
It has alot of firepower with the cannon and you can take out an air target with one small burst. A snipers dream.
but the jug can drop air targets just as well with all 8 .50s firing.
I think they are both awesome and I can see why their pilots swore buy them after they adapted to their quirks.
Where did they get the name SPITFIRE?

I don't fly the P-47 much, but when I do, I find that if I zoom climb, then dive down on the target, it works very well. However, when I am in the P-38, I fight on pure energy, basically, dive down on the target, and if I don't get it on the first pass, or there's another plane on my tail, I extend 2-4000 meters away before I turn and climb so I can gain my energy back and come down on him again...
Those are both very successful ways of using the P-38 and P-47. Tho, I like the P-38 more.

The only thing I don't like about the P-38 is the view to the sides. Other than that it's pretty sweet. I like it better for ground attacks over the P-47, if for no other reason than you have two engines to get you back home. For DF, i'll still take the P-51.

I'm becoming a dedicated 38 driver. One nice feature of the plane that I'm trying to cultivate is a rather swift rate of climb. I had three Zero's on me last night. Kept my speed up and just started climbing. Pulled away slowly and finally engaged one at about 6800 meters. It was an easy kill up there.

I'm a real fan of the P47 but as soon as I got into the P38 I was hooked, I love its acceleration, speed and firepower. Its very enjoyable to fly. I definatly now prefer it to the Jug

No question, the P-38 can move mud! But it'll take a while to give up my spacious, warm TBolt cockpit.

I thought BnZ is the same a Energy tactics. The two types being turning/angles and BnZ/Energy
Anyway, I guess most people disagree, but the CFS3 comment was uncalled for
