On this account I have 363 gems and I don't know what to spend them on. I was thinking of saving until I get enough for the +50 fuel upgrade but I'm having doubts whether that's the best way of spending gems.
Any ideas?

I suggest spending them to buy outfits. That is, if you really want to spend them. You can also spare some gems up for if RedLynx wants you to repair a bridge to acces a certain island.. The choice is yours.

Gems for outfits (for their benefits), gems for future content, gems in case your need to pick up a track/paintjob off the lootwheel or slot machine.... and gems for donkey donuts if you are upgrading it but are short of coin. Those are the things with the biggest benefit IMO.

I assume you're not doing the slot machine? Not like I ever get more than 20 over my max but I hate it when you spin a fuel and you drops you down to your max. Right, no more slots for me.I maxed it out at 30, but since then they added tickets and all kinds of junk so you cant make as much there as you used to, so i leave it alone and just collect fuel.
But i'd gladly lose my fuel if they put a new track on the slots.....

I use gems only in "emergency" cases. Things that fall in that category are anything that involves unlocking a track (slots, loot wheel, island bridge, etc.). I also used to use them to skip ANBA challenges that were impossible to me, or skip slot machine tasks that were BS. I only bought the outfits that have powers that I really deem necessary or helpful. Other than that, stockpile those bad boys, because as xitooner said, it's good to have backups in case something comes out that requires you to spend them!
Oh and I'll be dropping about 400 on the Donkey in a few weeks I'm sure.

I would first grab the outfits with useful bonusses (such as -33% refuel time). Then go with fuel upgrades, but leave a bit of gems in case an event or update drops where gems are needed for a purchase.
