People like competing for high scores, been a pretty major part of gaming since gaming was invented. Given that trials is heavily focused on competing for leaderboard position and highscores, it shouldnt be surprising that alot of the players also care about their gamerscore.
After all im sure you have gone back and improved medals/times on tracks you have already beaten in trials. Sure at the end of the day its a meaningless accomplishment, but it adds a sense of progression to something you already enjoy doing and gives you a reason to keep doing it.
And frankly, life itself is just meaningless progression designed to give us a sense of purpose before we assume our ultimate role as fertilizer. So really, xbox live achievements are an allegory for humanity's constant struggle to rationalize its existence.
And yes im surprised as anyone else that a post about gamerscore ended on a note about the philosophy of human existence, but here we are.
