Question to AMD AthlonXP 2500+ (Barton core) users.
I've been using 2500+@3200+ overclocked system, but I burned that CPU due to my carelessness. (New cooler installation in opposite way!! Don't blame AMD. )

So I bought new 2500+ cpu and it is not overclocked well like before. I'm using it in default mode(166 * 11) and I feel some downgrade in performance in FB. Is it normal? Is it just my illusion? Is there MEANINGFUL difference between 2500+ and 3200+?? (Of course, in FB!)

Maybe it seems trivial but it doesn't get out of my head all day long. no, two days!

Show me the light. I can't do my job thinking about this. Following your opinion, I could shut up and just use this default clock or, I'll go to shop and buy powerful $35 cooler. I'm not hardcore overclocker. I'm just waxing my fighter plane.

    2500+ = 166 x 11 (fsb x multiply)
    3200+ = 200 x 11

So it is like a six-lane road and eight-lane road.. uhh.. I think.

It's really nothing but I'm going crazy.

I got a theory that basically you've met the needs of most modern graphic cards at about 2.4 gig Inten - or xp 2500+ - from there it's ram and what you can get outta the card. I've noticed only tiny increases in fb performance with increased cpu above this. But much more substantial changes when I increased the clock settings on my card.

    currently:
    Abit IC7
    P4 2.6c@3.3
    2 gig ddr400
    wd raptor sata
    audigy
    9800pro

I've run an xp2500+ with my old 9700 card - flashed to pro speeds and oc'd to 380/340 with very close performance in FB - 3dmark for that rig was around 5400 - my rig gets around 6400 but in fb it seems all about the video - I've also run intel 2.4s with the 9700 and 9800.

Be interesting to discuss - but my thinking now is above 2.4 gig or so it's on the vid card.

Here is a comparison using a 2500+ at default, and at overclocked 2.2GHz:

Get a good cooler (CoolerMaster, Thermaltake, or Zalman would do) and put it on a quality thermal paste like Arctic Silver.

well i just did an upgrade from a

    2600+tbred B core non OC
    1 gig pc2700
    to a
    XP3200+
    with 1 gig pc3200

the rest of my system stays the same
    mobo Ga-7N400 pro nforce 2
    R9700 np OCed

i did the blackdeath test a few times to see how much improvement i get

    i did the test on 1024x748x32 4xAF 4xFSAA
all FB settings maxed out on excellent

    2600+ set up
    avg of 50fps

    3200+set up
    avg of 65fps

so to upgrade to a faster CPU and RAM doesnt realy pays off considering the price tag
but that isnt the reason i upgraded ,i want to build a second PC cus i have plenty hardware components left except the RAM and CPU

Nice chart Weatherman - I noticed a leap when I went from the 533 intel buss to 800 (and corresponding ram) even above a slightly higher clock speed.

I've got a saphire 9700 non-pro oc'd - I got a freeby on my 9800 pro but that 9700 non is one of the best bargains - with a little extra cool it overclocks like crazy and is very nearly as fast as my 9800 pro oc'd.
