Am I missing something? Ping pong chips and money $$

    Hi

So first of all I'm not exactly new to the game, rank 210 as of now so it's not that im absolutely clueless (questionable!). Been reading these forums quite a bit, used to ping pong for money before RL capped the money and thought it was completely useless to do now until doing a bit of reading today. However the only thing I'm not quite getting is:

Why is ping ponging (for chips) any use now?

I've read the best tactic for chips is to stay at and around rank 15 and win every other showdown. Why would this be any more effective than winning all of them? As when your losing on a track, you don't accrue chips, and when you lose a showdown you only get half the chips of the limited amount that you have accrued.

I'm sure I'm missing something, just don't know what and would love some guidance.

And while I'm at it, any tips on getting money any faster? Noticed a few players on this forum who have a ridiculous amount of cash to spare, or is that just because they went hard on ping ponging when they had the chance before RL capped the winnings.

    Thanks

    Wayne

I think the fastest way to gather money is with accepting gitfts ofter enough, oh wait it doesn't work currently... sorry.

    Slot Wheel is quite good.

If you are able to win every single match on high levels, go ahead. For most people, it is easier to win against low lvl players, and it consumes less time. Tickets are not a restriction if you have enough friends (and if the gift box works), so it doesnt matter if you start many matches at the same time. Then you check which matches are more competitive, concede those, and try to win the easier ones. You don´t really lose the chips from a lost match, if you start another when it ends, so at the end of the day you still win, even if you lose. I usually do that, and when the end of the season is near, I start (and compete) a gazillion matches in order to get a high rank.

But hey, everyone is free to do as they want. I´m personally not very competitive, so I´m more comfortable doing that way.

Do you have all the tracks in the Chip Store (so few people do). Do you need donkey blueprints or doughnuts for the donkey? Both are bought with chips now, and any way to get lots of chips is going to be useful. . . .and pong is one good way.

Whats best depends on your play style. If you are a person like me who checks the game regularly (due to playing the slots its easy to get in the habit of checking every hour or two) then playing pong basically boils down to taking 3 tracks every 2 hours when there are tons of faults... its trivial to do and you get 1000+ chips each (or 1500+500 if you both agree to give one guy the win if he gives you more chips). Its only drawback is that so few people understand whats going on or want to do it.

The "hang around at weak ranks" approach has historically worked fine as a good way to make steady chips because its pretty casual gameplay that probably conserves your tickets. . . but it has some drawbacks, IMO:
    - Its like college kids beating up 6th-graders for their lunch money. No challenge; kinda boring. (But sometimes boring is nice)
    - More and more people are doing it, so you may not find it as casual/productive as it has been in the past.

(and yeah, if you do it right losing just delays you getting some of your chips... you dont lose any)

Thanks for clearing that up, I'm actually struggling to hold onto tickets, probably because I am too competitive and sometimes need to realise when to just admit defeat!

I've still got 6 tracks, soon to be 5 to unlock, so not too bad I suppose and don't particularly care for the donkey, yet. I guess I'm just getting frustrated at the pace in which chips come in, maybe I will have to start pingponing in that case and change my tactics!

Money is not so much of a problem, again just impatience! Loving the new gift box money from each player though!

    Thanks all for your replies

The biggest benefit of the "Stay at Rank 15 and Alternate Wins" strategy is the final push to legend. In the last few days of the season, you can open up 49 showdowns and easily win every one of them with just one or two runs through each level. Then as your wins come in, you just keep opening new matches until you're at legend. This gets you 30,000+ chips after having averaged about 1000 a day for the first 25+ days of the season. So, you get about 50,000+ chips in 30 days with basically no effort and if you have enough friends you end up with way more golden tickets at the end of it. I used to play hard every match and go straight to legend and even ping pong but that takes way more play time and it's not really enjoyable (except for the blitz season, which was a lot of fun).

Both methods for gathering chips have their strengths and weaknesses. I agree that hanging out at level 15 may be akin to having a smurf account and is a questionable practice. However, if you look at the technique, you are helping people as you help yourself by giving away wins on every other match. Either way you choose gets boring. I see little difference in entertainment value between mindlessly banging out one less fault every hour vs winning every other match versus low ranked players. The only benefit to climbing to legends early and ping ponging, is in that last hour you get to compete with the best players, which is fun. If you aren't concerned with having some decent competition, the other technique is the way to go.

It's a grind either way, which some people enjoy but most do not.

I'm level 12, no interest in PvP for this season... Instead of usual pong starting with 20 errors (I'm still offering 10 errors, but no one pinged me properly!!!) I run incremental times even my opponents are not so willing to run. If the run, ok then etc. Every other day I try to lose while still getting small amount of chips... those doughnuts are costly...

Then my balls broke from offering a good pong and I ran some crazy times (I mean, really awful times), but no... no one is trying to run as awful as I tried...

In the end, I'm taking a break from PvP while still collecting some, and I'm riding the missions and tracks to improve some PRs. Maybe the next season will be different, but I don't see the point running either good or bad in this PvP season.
