Played a little bit of Rainbow 6 Seige. So far not impressed at all.
It is only the alpha so Im not talking about graphics glitches or quality or anything like that right now but there needs to be more to the game than what Ive played so far.
So let me explain:
The rounds are over very quickly, the gameplay is far to quick. What this does is it loses all the strategy that you'd expect as the tactics quickly dilute to... block that door, lay some barb wire, put up a shield etc etc. repeat repeat.
couple this with...
The maps feel way to small even for a siege theme. I've spent longer in menus and planning than in the game. So small maps and quick shallow gameplay leave the whole experience like watching one firework go off. Where's the slow build up of tension, the to and fro of gun fire as you eat away cover to gain an advantage.
Ultimately, and I know the theme of the game is Siege, but the whole game centres around camping an objective, but not in a Counter Strike way or even the Rescue mode of BF Hardline, instead its more like when you get a team camping around a Mcom in BF3/4 (rush mode) and the rest of the team have to get it. But unlike BF, R6S theres no more to it, thats all there is. Bang bang start again.
The game needs alot more to it than there is in the closed Alpha and I dearly hope there is. Bigger maps, possibly differing game modes such as having to chain objectives together maybe, slower gameplay, less focus on gadgets more focus on tactics and strategy.
Fingers crossed that the final game has much much more to it than this.
