I feel a bit crazy and in the minority, but I really really really loved this.
-The landscape and whistling winds was deeply atmospheric. I loved being on top of a wind swept mountain trudging through the snow with a sense of fear and isolation.
-It almost angers me the main campaign didn't use this landscape - FC4's landscape is boring by comparison...scrub brush and rocks. They should have blended some of this in.
-The story was tight and relatively coherent and made sense.
-The whole thing had a "feel" to it that all fit together- lonely, isolated, wild, dangerous.
- I loved the mission design and the story of the cult.
-The Yeti were actually fearsome predators and added alot
3 cents...with the main game was more like this...
I liked it for the most part, but the more powerful weapons were too easy to get, the Yeti's were too easy to avoid or fight, and the ending was a real let down being so easy and linear.
When the DLC starts you out with nothing and you have to explore caves, it makes you assume there will be at least one confrontation on the level of the Graug boss fight in Shadow of Mordor, but it never reached such a climax anywhere.
The night raids on the relay station were the only real challenging part. So even though I liked it, it left me feeling disappointed, like there was a lot of wasted potential.
Overall I thought Valley of the Yetis was really good, and sort of saved the DLC aspect of Far Cry 4 as all the content before it was not the greatest and some of it was already available through limited editions and such. I really loved the idea of having to find all the skins and weapons, but the issue with that was that the skins were way too common. It would have been a lot more intense if they were more rare, and that would have also promoted exploration.
I'd rather have to hunt for them. It's kinda strange that EfD seemed to have more hunting than VotY, even though they put you on a constantly running timer. And it pretty much IS rare skins they put in crates in their DLC now.Originally Posted by jeannaq Go to original post
They could be getting WAY more creative by making you earn what you get, esp rare skins and weapons.
Rare sniper rifles could be placed in the hands of a sniper in a tower at the end of a narrow gorge filled with a gauntlet of snipers hiding on ridgetops.
Rare machine guns like the Buzzsaw could be placed in the hands of a gunner in a nest in a heavily fortified fortress.
Rare skins could be placed in hunter's camps surrounded by packs of predators and traps, with a final push through hunters themselves to get to them.
I'm not saying other devs don't get lazy with game design, but I'm really getting tired of it. It seems ever since the iconic Tomb Raider series resolved to putting artifacts and relics out in the open in containers you just kick open, it was a green light for everyone to follow suit in one way or another.
