    Maxed too early

I probably posted this in the wrong section earlier, so let me put it here.

So I just bought Far Cry 4 for the PS3 last week, and I absolutely love it. It is the first time I have ever played a far cry game before and it seems I have been missing out.

i do however have a huge complaint. I am only 39% complete and I have already finished all the crafting, and finished upgrading my homestead. Plus I only have 8 skills left to fill in my skill trees. I haven't even unlocked the Northern part of the map yet and I essentially have nothing left to earn except a few weapons. And I have no use for money, so there is no real reason to go out hunting or do side quests since the skins and the money are useless. This is vexing since I always like to do all the side stuff in my games, but now it's pointless because I won't get anything out of it. The economy and crafting systems were obviously made for the people who just zip through the story and never stop to smell the roses. I fear I will soon get bored and stop playing without anything to work towards.

i surely can't be the only person with this problem.

Yes, they certainly got the pacing off in several spots. Don't worry, it gets worse! After you complete all the towers in the North, you unlock the buzzsaw (a weapon so overpowered it's like turning on a god Mode cheat), but it costs 430,000 or something. Trouble is, you are most of the way done, and you pretty much have most of the other stuff out of the way as you say, so what's the point?

Essentially, some things come to early, some come too late, and all of it is an artifact of trying to get creative. They are trying to give you options for gameplay, but it seems they never went back and tried to balance things out. It's almost as though they sat some players down and used too small a sample to determine "average" player. Like they found out some people liked to unlock all the towers using the buzzer, did the absolute minimum to get to the north, then unlocked all of those towers, and that became "the way to play" or something.

Me, if the game provides stuff to do in one area, I like to get it all out of the way while I'm there. That means my pacing is 100% different than the "way to play" so I get penalized, yet I'm the one playng in a manner where having weapons available earlier (in terms of absolute progress) makes the most sense.

Again, it's all one huge artifact of trying to provide so much to do, and paying very little attention to balanced play. I'm sure lots of people feel like they are getting "more value" by having so much side stuff to do, but the end result is the "campaign" gets lost in the shuffle.

Maybe by virtue of having so much less to do they magically got the pacing better in FC2, but it DOES "feel" more correct in that game. FC3 is better in this regard than FC4, so I think the reason FC4 suffers so much from it is a combination of adding more fluff AND trying to push the game out to meet the holiday deadline, and accordingly, missing the opportunity to polish out these inconsistencies and questionable pacing decisions.

Well....it is a shooter and taking the outposts can go lots of different ways ( 4 directions to attack from, for one) and with lots of different styles (stealth, rambo, combo of both). And lucky for us they decided that you wouln't have to replay the game 50 times to do the same outpost over and over, but you can opt for the Outpost Master and do it over and over.
    So...bored? How can that be.

Next if you like to adventure and go on walk-about to find interesting things, lets see you get 100% and find each and every mask, letter, propaganda poster, etc. There are mountains I've never climbed that can be climbed and places I've never gone after getting 100% at least 3 times with FC4. Untill you've spent 3 million or more rupees on all the signature weapons so you can get 100% dont say you dont need anymore money, cause you will.
We only quit when we get bored. Some get bored and quit easily and have 100's of game all of which have never been completed. Others play the same few they like over and over. To each his own. You play the game that appeals to you at the present moment. Later another game will come out and you will journey in that world until your done with it.

Three million doesn't take that long to earn when you are like me and loot every body, every chest, collect every leaf and every skin you run across. My main point is I shouldn't have been able to max out my crafting items, and nearly maxed out my skill trees before I even reached the halfway point in the game. That's poor balancing. I am into the rpg stuff, so once I have no more upgrades to earn stuff starts to feel kinda pointless. The skill trees in Borderlands is much better. That feeling of leveling up follows you all the way to the end of the game, since there are so many skills and only so many skill points you can never max your skill trees. This game would be better if it were like that.

Well if you set out to max your money and skins early on it is inevitable that you will do it and have less to do later on. On my latest play of FC4 I set out to get the absolute maximum skins and loot I possibly could before I had to save Banapur (after meeting Longinus for the first time). If it is any consolation North Kyrat is tougher because the Royal Guard have double health !

Personally I have never completed the game 100% - it simply doesn't bother me.
I think one of the reasons FC2 was good was because it wasn't overburdened with side missions but I suppose Ubisoft have to keep to their winning formula a la FC3 and FC4.

I love all the side stuff. But with this game, you quickly run out of things to earn if you do the side activities. I ran into this problem with Watch Dogs too, but for some reason I am finding it more frustrating here. It feels like a punishment for doing side missions. But I see them on the map, and I can't not do them.

i am glad to hear it will get harder in the north though.

That's one extreme, the other would be the way you're playing. The norm would be doing both side and story missions as you go. I don't see it as an issue.

Nice sig btw, here's to hoping for a Max Payne 4. Rockstar can certainly afford it.
