I'm currently playing through Far Cry 3 on PC to quench my thirst, so to speak, until FC 4 drops in price on the PS4. I tried taking some pictures with the camera in-game hoping they would be saved as screenshots (the game on ultra looks beautiful so if I got into a really nice spot just take a shot or two) but sadly it's only used for gameplay purposes in a couple of missions according to Google. So my question is: Does Far Cry 4 have a camera? And can we take pictures with it that will be saved?
For example on PS4 if I took a picture it could be saved to the screenshots folder just as a normal one would - but using the camera gets rid of the weapon and HUD.
Quite an immersive way of taking screens!
Sadly no, the camera is perhaps even less significant to gameplay in FC4. I think they realized that it was basically pointless to have it, so they have you take pics of your assassination targets with it and I think there is 1 or 2 instances of "using" it throughout the campaign, but other than that it's still relegated to being nothing more than a tagging tool. Always thought it would be cool to have a couple missions throughout the game where you have to photograph certain people/ places/ events to use at a later time (for evidence or blackmail etc), which would justify them having it set up so that the game actually saves & uses in-game photos. They should also have a sort of side quest where you can photograph wildlife or something. Actually quite a few ways they could make the camera less trivial in the game come to think of it.
As for screenshots though, you can "toggle interface" when using the camera which removes all HUD elements and then simply tap the share button on the ps4 controller to snap a HUD-free screenshot

It seems binoculars would have made much more sense - and then just give you a camera when it's needed for the mission.
Well I wouldn't want it to imply that Ajay is carrying even more than he already is. Think about what all he supposedly has on him at any one time. 4 guns, 12 nades/ molotovs/ throwing knives, tons of ammo, tons of loot, tons of bait, rockets, harpoons, syringes, arrows. I think him carrying even a pair of binoculars in addition to all that the dude would just crumple under the weight of it all! haha. Seriously though, it doesn't need to be some big professional photographer's camera. I always thought it should just be a cell phone camera and that would be what is displaying all the map info & everything as well. I dunno, I mean, i can let the unrealistic amount of gear he's packin' around slide, I'd rather have it than go back to a stripped down 2 gun situation, I actually LOVE having 4 weapons, and I legitimately want the camera, I just want there to be some gameplay reasons to have it.
In fc3, the tourist aspect of the main character allowed a good reason for an all singing, all dancing camera. In fc4, Ajay isnt really a tourist, so the top of the range smart-camera seems a bit excessive when going to a war torn country simply to bury some ashes. I suppose they had to give him some kind of viewing equipment, and the latest military grade binos (which i would assume these days have picture and video capabilities digitally integrated) may have been a stretch to be supplied by an army using ak47s and machetes. In answer to the op question.... yes i would like to have been able to take photos as part of the game at any point, rather than just on certain missions and side quests. I suppose the "share" button on the ps4 is a decent second prize though.
i think it'd be cool to justify the camera in the narrative. Have you playing a photo journalist or something in some exotic place there to document the goings on and get caught up in whatever is happening there (though not another civil war between the local populace and some tyrant, I mean honestly how many civil wars can be happening across the globe at any one time in this new "shared universe" amiright?)
Imagine a FC5 set in south america where some new cartel has been getting out of hand and you're sent to cover the story only to get entangled in the whole thing. Something like that, that way there could be reason to use your fancy camera and reason for them to implement saving the photos you take in game as they could be mission related. Yeah you go around fighting the cartels/ mercenaries, but you still want to do your job and get the photos to shed light on the atrocities being committed,, so there'd be missions having you snap photos of hostile forces up to no good & what not... just a bit of brainstorming on ways to make it make sense, but I think something like that could work.
