[PC] Black screen on startup due to unsupported graphics card?

    Hi all,

I bought this game but can't play it, whenever I launch it it shows the Far Cry 4 splashscreen, followed by a blank screen. When I force my way back to the desktop, I get the message "Far Cry 4 has stopped working".

My graphics card only supports DirectX 10 and I know FC4 needs a DX11 card, but wouldn't it at least launch and have some sort of error message like "Go buy a new graphics card" instead of just crashing? I plan to get a new card just for this game but I don't want to waste my money if it turns out that something else is stopping the game from working (e.g. shoddy console port).

I've read that this is a bug that's supposed to be fixed with the latest patches (i've let uplay patch the game). I tried unplugging my bluetooth keyboard/mouse and using a wired keyboard/mouse but it made no difference. I also tried verifying the game files and disabling Uplay overlay and that made no difference. It can't be the dual-core bug because I have a quad core.

My specs are: Intel Q9550s, 4Gb RAM, AMD HD 4670, Win 7 x64

Well , you already got your problem answered.
You say that your card supports only DX10, but FAR CRY 4 needs DX11, so here is your problem , Unsupported card

your 9550 Intel should run the game fine i use a Q6600 @ stock speed 2.4 GHZ

    tho i use 8 gig of DDR 2 -800 not 4

oh and if cash is short i can confirm i ran the game fine on a sapphire HD7750 1 gig DDR5 card / with medium textures /vsync off / SSBC on /SMAA on @ 1600 X 900 you most likely find one for about $100 -$130

set triple buffering to ON in advanced settings as well as v sync to sparse

    upgraded that to my current card an R 9 270 X 2 gig card game plays good @1920 X 1080 (1080 P)

Thanks for all the responses. It's been ages since I've checked the min specs for any game. Looks like I'll be buying a new card then.

Has anyone tried launching the game with a DX10 card to see if they get the same crash / error message? It would be a bit annoying if I bought a new card, only to find that the black screen crash was caused by something else! There aren't many other games coming out in the next year or so that are worth buying a new card for...

What? There are plenty of good games coming soon. The Witcher 3, & Batman Arkham Knight just to name a couple. I bet both of those will require a Dx11 card.

Actually, my friend has this blackscreen crash on startup problem just like you.
    GTX750 card, i7 CPU, win7 64-bit, DX11
everything's fine but there's just a unknown reason causing the blackscreen crash.

ok guys, my black screen issue is definitely caused by my DX10 card. I'm going to upgrade it soon, but here's how I found out:

I followed the instructions here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...scn=1401340607 which allows DX11 games to launch using older graphics cards - it allowed me to start the game but in some sort of supler-slow software rendering mode. It was so slow at playing those unskippable cut-scenes I gave up before I could get to the main menu, but at least it proves the rest of my machine is OK.

I wish that they'd put some effort into the thing so that it does a basic graphics card check instead of crashing. Hope the rest of the game is OK.

Almost forgot about Arkham Knight - finally get to drive the batmobile apparently. Also looking forward to GTA5 but I bet it wont be out till after summer...

That's unfortunate, have they tried all the obvious things (updating drivers, unplugging all extra USB stuff, uninstalling any joystick drivers, disabling uplay overlay etc)? Do they get an entry in the event viewer for the crash?
