Temporary fix for SLI screen flicker

Try this for a temporary fix for the screen flicker issue while using SLI on Far Cry 4 version 1.9.0

Swap from Fullscreen mode to Borderless Window mode. The flickering will go away. If you take a performance hit from doing that as I do then just swap back to Fullscreen mode. The flickering will still be gone for awhile. Eventually after a random load screen the flickering will come back. When it does just swap display modes again, & it will go away again for awhile. If that doesn't work try doing the same thing with your resolution. Swap resolutions & it will stop flickering. Both are still just temporary fixes though. Good luck everyone.

I have found a much better fix on another thread. Thanks to jrmanders

I also changed AlphaToCoverage="0" and LightingQuality="ultrahigh" in the GamerProfile.xml file.

    This one really does work.

Update: AlphaToCoverage doesn't matter. Just forcing 16xAF & setting LightingQuality to "ultrahigh" in the GamerProfile.xml file is working for me.

This is exactly the same for Dragon Age: Inquisition. When the flickering occurs I switch to window mode than back to fullscreen to rid all if not most of the flickering in DAI.

Havent tried it yet for FC4 1.9 but I hope it works because when I loaded the game after 1.9 update the flickering was just atrocious, when pre 1.9 there was minimum to no flickering.

Why does updates break the game even more *sigh*

Hey, thanks for posting this workaround. We're looking into this issue right now, so please be sure to send us your DxDiag through a support ticket to help us investigate. Thanks for your patience!

Idk what they could have done. Perhaps it is because they were working on the Yeti DLC before the patches that fixed most SLI problems were released originally, & when they added the DLC & the new patch it actually rolled back the fixes they had implemented with patches 1.7.0, & 1.8.0 since the development of the Yeti campaign began. That is all I can think of. This is why one good development team is better than 10 okay development teams. Ubisoft has too many different devs working on one project at a time which is why so many of their games get released buggy. One team will break what another had fixed & none of them talks to each other because they are on opposite sides of the world & speak different languages. That leads to these kind of messes. Ubisoft needs to change that practice & keep each game being developed all in one dev studio. It may take longer to develop a game that way because of less man power, but the games would be much more stable for it.

Yes I already have a support ticket for this issue & I have updated it with all the info I have including my dxdiag & msinfo32 files. I just came here to post this temporary work around to help other people with the same problem.

I hope you guys can iron the problem out quickly. Good luck to all of you.

This is not a temp fix in the sense that it will allow you to continue playing uninterrupted. This fix only works for short periods of time before the flickering starts again, and you have to go though the process of changing Rez, or Screen Mode again.

However, you really do not need anyone's DXdiag. Walk over to another machine, yank the video card out of it and set up Sli. Fire up the game, and whala! ... you have all the information right there. This affects all SLI set ups from what I'm reading. I have no Idea about Crossfire. With an estimated 6 million units sold, somehow I can't bring myself to believe money is the issue with regard to having at least one machine in the Development/QA departments set up with SLI.

I'm not mad, upset or even raging .. I'm disappointed in how something like this can happen.

Same situation with Crossfire... With Patch 1.8.0, NO Flickering with AFR Friendly, while with Patch 1.9.0 flickering has returned. Waiting for a fix.

LOL! You would think that every big name developer would have at least one SLI system & one Crossfire system setup to test games out on first before releasing the games or patches. It is just crazy how this can get overlooked. The people with the big SLI & Crossfire rigs are the ones that spend more money buying games to start with. So it looks like they would get better support. I mean how can this SLI problem even happen on a game that Ubisoft has partnered with nVidia to create? A nVidia gameworks game shouldn't be having SLI issues...

There... there is my rant... LOL!

This issue isn't actually occurring on all SLI setups, so system information for the affected configurations is helpful. Thanks!
