Running FC4 on a dual boot computer

    Hey all,

So I am running a PC with a dual boot of Win 8.1 and Windows Technical Preview. I have Uplay and FC4 installed on my main partition C:. The OS for that partition is Win 8.1. When I boot into the Win Tech Preview, that then becomes the C: drive. So I am able to explore to D: (my main partition) and open Uplay and even search of FC4 bin file and run it. However, I get an error message when trying to open:

Unable to start the game. Please check that your game has been installed correctly.
I see there is a comment about locating game folder so I click that, navigate to my D: (my main partition) find the FC4 folder and locate bin folder. Then this error pops up:

Failed to validate game files. Try re-installing the game.
How can I verify the game files? If I boot to the main partition, verify files then boot back into the Win Tech Preview, will that fix that problem?

I guess I will try that first, but I have a feeling that isn't going to work. I will come back to post my findings.

The problem is likely occuring because the game isn't in the system registry on the second OS. Registry entries are created when the game is installed, but only for the OS you're installing on. Not sure how to fix it.

Verifying files in the main partition boot will not fix the problem as it will have no effect on the registry for the tech preview boot.

I am sure Tully__ got it right. You can fix it by installing it to another location while in Tech Preview. Not sure if there are more elegant ways to get it working.

So you were right, validating did nothing. I have seen some places where people created registry files and got the game to work. Any feeling on that being a workaround?

It may work if you get it exactly right, but registry edits are very easy to get wrong. It's not a method I'd recommend if you're not a qualified windows techician with experience working registry.
