I need some help with optimization for a super-cross track I'm working on...
I'm getting slowdown a few times throughout the track and the stats overlay is indicating high levels for Active objects.
Question is, can I make my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lanes Decoration Only? I've noticed when I made background objects Deco Only the stats indicator drops.
I assume this would mean It would not be playable on local MP??
Looking forward to your replies![]()
Make anything you dont need to touch decoration.
Probably best without any physics.
If you have 2 lights in the same area, try just 1 for a similar effect.
If you get a big jump and the camera can see up the track and lots of objects etc try a custom camera to hold it.
But if you have issues all over then it's probably due to physics objects or OPE im guessing.
And you'll just have to remove most to reduce the slowdown.
post a pic of your stats.
I actually made a stupid mistake and was building local supercross...once I realised and changed to XSX it fixed a lot of the lag. However there are still a few spots where theres some lag remaining, especially where there is a few lava objects.
Thanks for your advice, I'm going to address some of the issues and try some of the things you mentioned.![]()
Make the physics bubble as small as possible as physics dont work anyhow in XSX, also what I did with my X platform track (BBC Future Past), the other lanes can be deco only , its only ghosts that ride them.
Effects can cause slowdowns too due to particles.
Multiple effects with lights are also bad (like fire) use a bigger single fire effect, or use pointlights instead (turn the light off on the effects).
I almost always turn lights off on checkpoints too.
That would turn them off for the people behind the leader. If they're not in view there's no need.Originally Posted by TeriXeri Go to original post
Yeah but they still see the Red/Green , they just dont glow, which isn't needed at all if it's a daytime track, different story if it's a dark track of course.Originally Posted by iwound00 Go to original post
I mean, the lights off permanent by the way, not triggered off after the 1st player passes it, that would make no sense.
Sorry Teri i didnt realise you meant checkpoint lights. Thought you meant triggered at checkpoint. Yeah they look awful anyway. Too much glow.Originally Posted by TeriXeri Go to original post
Here's a non standard tip. Put two blocks top and bottom of the camera like black borders and call it cinematic.Im joking.
Maybe you have already but you could also try reducing draw distance. I've been finding that helps a lot with performance in XSX. Make it as short as you can without getting pop-up. For the tracks I've built so far my view distance has been 900 meters max, as low as 600.
For deco only just keep in mind that setting doesn't help performance on objects outside of the physics bubble so the priorirty should be on objects close to the drive line that the rider won't touch.
Also pretty much everything Teri said![]()
