Tried the temporary solution - deleting the version.txt and re-downloading the uplay installer and installing it, but it still doesn't work.
This is my issue as well using windows 8.1. Uplay loads just fine and my other ubi games (FC4, AC4, etc.) can be played as well, however, Far Cry 3 gets stuck on the loading screen and stops responding in task manager after this update. I have tried deleting the version.txt, re downloading uplay and reinstalling uplay over the top of my old install and it does not revert it back (and no uplay was not running).

I then tried the additional suggestion of deleting the number inside version.txt and saving it and reinstalling. Unfortunately, after a few unsuccessful attempts the version.txt file still states 3914. (At least the FC3 map editor still works so I'll just continue work on my map while a proper fix is issued).

Basically, delete the text in version.txt instead of deleting the file and then try installing Uplay again

Hello, I gave your solution a try and re-downloaded Uplay for the third time tonight, with the same results. I still cannot play Far Cry 4, and the version still says 3914 even after I've deleted the file and also tried deleting the text from the version.txt file. Any other solutions?

    Hello everyone,

Uplay is up and running, and the update is working for the vast majority of users. I am sorry that those of you in this thread are still encountering issues with it, but it seems unlikely to me that the issue is with Uplay itself as most users are able to run Uplay unaffected. It's possible that the issues you're encountering are the result of other software on your computers interacting with Uplay in some way that stops it from being able to move past the searching for updates step.

There is a program called HiJackThis which can be downloaded here; this program can be used to detect and log what is running on a computer, and those logs can be used to find out what conflicts may be arising. If you are still experiencing issues with Uplay, it would be very helpful to us if you could generate a HiJackThis report of what is running when you try to launch Uplay and it gets stuck. If you do create one of these reports for us, please PM a link to that report to either myself or Ubi-Cain so we can get that information to the Uplay PC developers and try to identify what is causing the issue for you.

We could also use the launcher_log.txt which can be found in the Uplay installation folder too, this may give us helpful information. By default it can be found here:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\logs

Just to point it out in case it helps anyone, in this thread a customer mentions that they were stuck "looking for updates" until they uninstalled an antivirus program called Malwarebytes. If you are using this program, try checking if this is causing the issue for you too.

The issues persist for me even after spending the weekend working with the Ubisoft phone support staff.

I can say beyond the shadow of any doubt that my computer did not chang last week with the exception of the uplay update. I am still unable to play ANY Ubisoft games. The Ubisoft support people tried everything but were not helpful in the end. They have perused the logs from my computer and found no issues.

I have gone so far as to use system restore to reset my computer to how it was on 2-10-15 with no luck. The thing that pisses me off the most is that I bought this game through Steam which has its own DRM system, making uplay irrelevant, but yet I have to use it, by default adding another point of failure that has proven impossible to fix.

The hand-washing that appears to be happening now in this thread is disgraceful and disrespectful to the people who pay to put food on your tables. To render an entire game library useless is unforgivable.

I am having the exact same problem as the guy, I just tried uninstalling MalwareBytes and it did not fix anything. And it has little reason to do so : MalwareBytes (the free version at least) is not an active antivirus, it just scan when it is asked to do so.

Ubi-Leorthian, I just sent you by PM some HijackThis data and the logs from the Uplay launcher. I hope someone will find something useful from it.

    Me Too

I have done everything listed above and still cannot launch any UPlay games. I have tried rolling back multiple times (is always says 3914) both by deleing the file and the text, I have reinstalled UPlay, I have reinstalled the games, I have updated all drivers and even Windows...nothing is changing. I have sent dxdiag files and system info to Ubisoft support and they just keep telling me to reinstall more stuff that I've already done.

I can launch UPlay, but Uplay refuses to launch the games. Nothing happens when I click the play button. Steam cannot even launch Uplay. I have to do that manually. This has been going on since the 17th and I'm more than a little frustrated.

    Any other ideas???

Found a Solution to My Problem of Perpetiual "Logging In Screen"

    Hello all,

I have found a solution to my specific problem, I am running a P2P blocking software on my PC. If I disable the blocker and open all ports on my PC, UPlay works fine.

With the previous UPlay client before the recent update (Feb 17, 2015), I would have to disable or set an exception for allowing HTTP only, this ONLY allows ports 80 and 443 to be open to HTTP communications. This would always work and I never had an issue with it.

Since the update however, simply opening the main HTTP ports 80 and 443 does not work anymore, and was the cause for my problem of UPlay preventing me from successfully logging in to my account. It appears that Ubi has changed the port number(s) that Uplay uses to communicate with their servers for log in, and as a result, any existing exceptions you may have which open up main HTTP ports may need to be changed for the new update to work properly. (I don't know what the new port numbers for Uplay are, I just have them all open for the time being) maybe Ubi-Leorthian can elaborate on this?

For anyone who is having the issue of a perpetual "logging in" screen and animation, please check your firewall, antivirus, P2P blocker, or AD blocker to ensure that it may not be blocking Uplay from communicating with Ubi's servers. You may find this will help

Thanks for the response, although I knew this already. I guess I should apologize for blowing up like that, but I would like to say this first: I don't believe that gamers who pay a pretty penny for a game should have to be subjected to this DRM crap that major gaming companies have been shoving down our throats in the past while. If I pay for a game, it should be mine, I own it. If I want to mod weird stuff into my game why shouldn't I be able to? Why should I have to use a ridiculous inflated piece of software that has been known to cause nothing but problems in the past, just to regulate what I do with the game, how I open the game, how I play the game, etc?

As several people have already stated, why do we even need the useless redundancy of Uplay when we are all already using steam? Why should I have to open up my firewalls and anti virus software just so you can "Verify" my game license, and game file contents? What happens if your servers are DDosed? What happens if I lose my internet connection? what happens if your DRM software updates and changes some subtle little thing that some people may not realize/know how to fix or counteract?!?!?. It means were stuffed, that's it, our game is done, we are forbidden from playing, no chance of recovery, thanks for the money, peace out. That's what it feels like for us, completely helpless and ripped off.

Can you understand now? Why I rage so hard at stuff like this? It is beyond disrespectful, beyond not caring about us...we are treated like criminals who cant be trusted at all costs, we are just pawns in your game of making moar monies at all costs...forget the gamers, there all fools anyway.

Anyway, I could rant about this subject for hours, but telling you this is not any concern of yours, you cant change it, I cant change it, I just wanted to let you know why I blew up, and how it felt from my perspective so I apologize for raging on this thread.

I sincerely hope that I at least helped someone here today, as its seemingly up to the users to fix their own problems now.

    This is very interesting Cron555.

While I did not change anything since the update, I do have a firewall with some external ports blocked, and I cannot afford to fully shut it down just for Uplay.

Questions for the Ubisoft folks :
What are the ports *newly* required to be opened on the outgoing traffic since the last Uplay update ?
