Dear developers,
For the next instalment in the Far Cry franchise it would be amazing to visit the Vietnam War of the 1960s. In recent history the voices regarding this theme for Far Cry have increased largely. This setting was also a strong candidate sent out from the Ubisoft poll in December if I recall correctly. Eurogamer and IGN did them as well.
Think of Apocalypse Now in terms of video games, you would have that edgy insane villain, I am thinking of a colonel Kurtz kind of guy would be a wow factor. This theme could be spectacular if the story was really dark and if the game took a more realistic turn compared to the camp theatrical events of Far Cry 4. There aren’t enough good Vietnam shooters so the idea of a Vietnam Far Cry is very attractive.
Being set in the past gives Ubisoft the ability to recreate real places, use real weapons, and use real vehicles in their game as well. It will be amazing to see the Vietnam war brought to life in an open world video game, but it also presents challenges to Ubisoft. Challenges such as the open world, outpost progression etc.
It would feature jungles, rivers, villages, military outposts, temples, CIA, government experiments basically everything a good Far Cry game needs. Of course, lets not forget the authentic vehicles like the Huey (to be pilotable), patrol boats, jeeps etc.
If Ubisoft would decide to actually make this then hopefully as a full game and not a DLC
Please note this is how I could imagine a Vietnam Far Cry setting.
If you agree or disagree then please be so kind and add your personal opinion!
Thank you,
A Far Cry Veteran!
This is an amazing idea. I like it.
It has great potential.
Just imagine hunting someone like Colonel Kurtz across Vietnam... man I'd love that.
Also, Vietnam has good mythology with old gods and stuff. Maybe put some ancient ruins too.
There are also wild animals like tigers there.
Its an epic idea and when the poll about FC4 next DLC was out - I voted Vietnam.
Jungle, darker game..
horror.. horror
I would personally love for Ubi to do a Red Dead Redemption style title. Set in the same time period circa 1900'ish and include all the bells and whistles of that time with lots of exploration, side quests, collectibles...the whole 9 yards. oh, that would be awesome.
Please avoid the following like the plague -
1.) WW2 (done to death)
2.) WW1 (could be something there)
3.) Vietnam (done quite a bit, but not as much as WW2, could be something there also)
4.)Vampires (meh)
5.) Zombies (I cannot stress this enough)
6.) Future (too sci-fi and ridiculous)
7.) Zombies (Yes, they are that terrible I felt I needed to mention them twice)
8.) Anything that has anything to do whatsoever with anything CoD (this one should not need explaining)
Side note, we don't need anything circa Assassin's creed era, because that's already being done)
9.) I very strongly feel that you should re-read #'s 7 and 8.
My own preference would be Far Cry 2 reloaded.
Interactive animals but not too many of them and not ridiculously aggressive.
Helicopters/buzzers.
No Religion/Supernatural/Science Fiction.
Bigger map, more jungle.
Outposts, with occasional random respawning.
Boss battles to be as FC2, not scripted/quicktime.
Day/night cycle and realistic weather as per FC2.
Option to skip cutscenes and interminable speeches.
Yes, I want the next Far Cry to be more serious, more like Far Cry 2. I fear Far Cry will become the Saints Row of the ego shooter genre, all style no substance, looking for that next tower to climb the next animal to skin the next C4 to explode. Higher faster deeper no sir I don't want no action circus carnival. No.
