So I was playing Far Cry 4 the other day, killing absolutely anything and everything with the Buzzsaw when I realized "Hey, WW2 guns are awesome, I wanna see more!"
When I was done playing, I decided to watch a movie called Defiance, a WW2 themed film about some Rebels fighting off Nazi's in a secluded forest area. Again, I was hit with a massive, mind boggling idea.
WORLD WAR 2 THEMED FAR CRY.
If there's a Far Cry 5, I assume storyboarding for it would have been finished by now but if not, please hear me out Ubisoft.
How awesome would it be to take an innovative series like Far Cry and place it in a 1940's European setting. A setting where the protagonist
is part of a resistance movement against Nazis in some European forest. Sure past games had players mowing down Pirates and Royal Army Soldiers, but why not have us instead massacre pure evil. How cool would that kind of Far Cry be. I'm sure I'd pay top dollar for it. Not to mention all the cool, WW2 guns you could include.
Lately, I noticed that most games have been going Further and further into the future. Not many WW2 themed games are out, and the ones that are available
just aren't as interesting as they used to be. But if there's one series that I believe can successfully pull off such a game, its Far Cry. If you guys could create such amazing settings like the Rook Islands or Kyrat, then I imagine you'd knock a World War 2 setting out of the ball park.
Side Note: Maybe a female protagonist for once? There's something you almost never see in an FPS.
New Villain time! Someone just as crazy as Vaas and just as fun as Pagan Min, but twice the evil and is a Nazi!
it wouldn't even be close to a call of duty game. Mind you the call of duty series hasn't produced a good WW2 shooter since 2008.Originally Posted by Allare123 Go to original post
Now if Far Cry went further and further into the future, then it would be a call of duty game
The ironic thing is, it might actually be worse. You seem to be basing it off a premise of a similar scenario to the movie Defiance. Granted Defiance was a great movie, but rather boring for gameplay material. Much of it was them hiding from Nazis and struggling to survive the cold and disease.Originally Posted by THExELITEx94 Go to original post
Far Cry has always been about empowering the player with many tools and weapons, with over the top action. Resistance fighters of WWII were mostly stealth oriented with small hit and run attacks here and there and intel gathering, they had to be. So what you're going to end up with is a game like Saboteur, or Wolfenstein, which have already been done.
This would take Far Cry completely out of the usual random madman theme and place it in a WWII Nazi theme, where the enemy and scenarios have been done to death. Worse yet it would be disingenuous to the Far Cry franchise.
It's not as outlandish an idea as Far Cry in space, or Far Cry with dinosaurs, but it's certainly not true Far Cry.
The exceptions to the "over the top action" were Far Cry (I don't know about the XBOX "Predator" series.) and Far Cry 2. I liked the gritty scenario much better than sprinting around with guns blazing feeling like a god.Originally Posted by Frag_Maniac Go to original post
This I do have to agree with, though there's market for a new WWII shooter (I'd really like something along the lines of Battlefield 1942 and 2 in style rather than drop-the-bass dubstep toy soldiers.). I don't think an WWII-aftermath scenario (e.g. early cold war, early 1960s?) would be out of question, it'd have quite a few elements similar to Far Cry 2 (e.g. factions trying to seize power, mostly democracy & capitalism versus communism though, most developers don't want to get into politics in their games though.)Originally Posted by Frag_Maniac Go to original post
Original Far Cry had plenty of over the top action. You not only had quite an arsenal at your disposal, you could fire rocket launchers and sniper rifles from gliders, they had Fatboys with rocket launchers for arms, and Trigens that could go invisible and jump around like Spiderman. And the villain himself turned into a super human monster at one point.Originally Posted by razorfinnish Go to original post
