I can agree on the character comments on 3, I still don't know why some say 3 overall has better characters than 4. To me only Sam was likable.Originally Posted by wassupwiyou Go to original post
As for 2 though, there are many reasons well beyond your claimed hand holding that it's design was just terrible. The 2 followers need to get up off their angst a bit and give people credit for knowing game evolution vs devolution when they see it.
These are largely matters of opinion though. Whether you call it hand holding or not, some things just get ridiculously tedious and nonsensical in a game, and those things always vary from person to person.
I respect people's right to an opinion and even their wanting to try and force change, but some of the methods they're using are uncalled for and insulting.
Damn I still feel bad about killing Pagan Min.
Here is my blog post about why I didn't care about any of the characters in FC4 apart from Pagan.
Cheers

I've only played fc4 and after everybody's comments it seems the plot and the gameplay of fc3 were even better ... I've decided to buy fc3 asap!
About the music of fc4... IMHO is really way way better than many other's ... playing The bombay twist while you're driving the truck and shooting grenades??? priceless!
The plot of FC4 is better than FC3 in my opinion. In FC3 you had a bunch of rich kids parachuting onto one of a pair of islands where pirates apparently have access to so much money that they are effectively a private army complete with a helicopter fleet and they are able to abduct American citizens and even ships with impunity besides subjugating the people of the islands. Although there are plenty of boats it is beyond Jason's wit to get his pals on one and away from the island or to contact the nearest US embassy or army base for help. In true James Bond style, at every opportunity the baddies had to put a bullet through his head they dreamed up a fiendish death which allowed him to escape.Originally Posted by cichenlup Go to original post
While I like Far Cry 3 and still play it from time to time...I hated the quick time events that were the "boss" fights. I don't mind QTEs if they make sense and far and few in-between. Also the ending was pretty ridiculous to me. The only thing for me is Far Cry 4 should have been longer, the mission count is misleading as some "missions" are cut scenes and missions within other missions. It should have been much longer. Also the weapon unlock is off to me. You get the best weapons almost at the end of the game after the defeat of Yuma. These should have been unlocked sooner so you could play with them longer.
Killing Sabal and Amita were much more satisfying than Pagan min. So how does that work ?!?
The worst thing about Farcry 3 was killing Vaas. I had no issue with the fact the he was a psychopath and the world was better off without him but it was epically boring. And I mean absolutely and utterly tedious and made you wonder if it was ever going to end. It also made me feel cold blooded and morally bereft, which added to the story line of you becoming a sociopath but then potentially misaligned with the ending.
Very odd.
I spent alot of time with the far cry series and it is my favorite video game series.
FC1 was a great game with quick action, a moral story (saving the world from a mad scientist's creations), a tropical paradise, good game saves and a system that allowed you to replay from any point in your progression thru the game, good characters and realistic difficulty.
FC2 was much better graphics wise, but I couldn't get into the moral aspect of being a merc, I didn't like the respawning enemy checkpoints that respawned as soon as you got 200 meteres away or so it seemed, didn't like the african savanna environment compared to the jungle and didn't like the repetitive nature of the missions (after awhile they were all the same). The ability to get where you were going was extremely limited even tho its a open world leaving it appear to be linear as you HAD TO GO THRU STEEP MOUNTAIN AREAS alongside roads and couldn't climb the mountains or find different trails most of the time.
FC3 This was love at first sight, I loved the moral aspect, the jungle paradise, the action was quick and graphics phenominal. The story was long lasting and not over in 12 hours like the Tomb Raider out about the same time. The strory didn't get repetitive and the options to play it differently were great. The save system was workable with 3 games to play in at any one time and you could save a point along your progression manually and then replay from that point later or after the games finish which was not as versatile as FC1 but was o.k. The characters were interesting and the game was very immersive as I could get lost in FC3's virtual reality. My personal finding was they got it perfect in this game....for me. I liked the searching for objects, the wandering about looking at caves, etc. the constant danger of meeting troops on walkabout and the ramping up of the difficulty if you were successful against the first wave of pirates or mercs.
FC4 This game was expected to be fun after FC3 and it didn't dissappoint. I liked the story line, the moral aspects, that all my actions were choices on my part and had various consequences, the environment, the animals, the danger on walkabout, etc. The game designers never cease to amaze me in they bring real life things to a game that I was unaware of, such as in FC3 a wingsuit, which after searching, I found was real and possible to use in real life. In FC4 it was the personal helicopter which in real life was a military invention in the '60s as a 60mph, 260lb suitcase assemble one man helicopter. The helicopter is a love hate relationship for me in FC4. I love using it, but it takes alot away from exploring the surroundings on foot. It makes assaults very easy with a grenade launcher. The other things in FC4 that are good and bad are the many more combat options and it seems becuase of this the game play seems slower to me. Of course I get used to it, and dont' notice it much now, but initially I noticed that FC3 played much faster and in a shooter faster is better.
As a developer it is always going to be aimed at having the most people possible buy the game and not necessarily making the best possible game from a certain aspect. So, you make an aspect like throwing out bait to add interest to the fort takeovers but....that same mechanic can be used to collect 4 predators (say honeybadgers) that you need to craft a larger arrow quiver. I'm sure that was an unintended use for that mechanic or using the buzzer to fly up and quickly liberate bell towers as oppossed to climbing them as i'm sure alot of time was spent designing the climb aspect for each bell tower.
In the end i suspect most buyers of any video game never actually experience all the aspects the designers created to make the game interesting and pay their money and move on to the next new game that comes out a few monthes later. And then there are the diehard officionados that spend alot of time with the game and learn more about how it works than the developer imagined.
I would never have guessed that the music would have such an important effect on players as it has little on me. The statements made by the NPCs are much more interesting to me and I thank the game character actors for their voiceovers as they are great.
