Please, to put this to rest, read this.

A video game developer is a software developer that specializes in video game development – the process and related disciplines of creating video games.[1][2] A game developer can range from one person who undertakes all tasks[3] to a large business with employee responsibilities split between individual disciplines, such as programming, design, art, testing, etc. Most game developer companies have video game publisher financial and usually marketing support.[4] Self-funded developers are known as independent or indie developers and usually make indie games.[5]
Can this be done with now?

ozy - Markus Persson, well known for Minecraft, has no game development degrees. He literally took less classes in regards to programming than I have. By your definition, the creator of one of the most widely played games should not call himself a game developer. I can not agree with your definition.

Regarding anyone as "the guy who sweeps the floor" is not an accurate parallel to any of the jobs that anyone at RedLynx has.

Then Markus Persson is indeed not a qualified Game Developer, He is a guy that developed a popular game... by definition!

I did not say anyone was a floor sweeper Shifty, thats not fair, It was simply an analogy that could have used anything as a reference.

    From me? certainly,
I simply offered an explanation as to why the other side of the coin might not see things as you do,
If you are unwilling to even try to understand that... Yes, Done!

    Sorry I bothered...Respectably, or so I thought.

Shogun does far more than "promote" Trials, as does Badger. All of the community people have worked on aspects of this game that wouldn't be considered "promotion". All of the level designers have worked on more than just level design (which requires coding anyhow), all of the sound engineers, texture artists, modelers, designers... they all put something into making the game.

A coder is a coder. A developer is someone who develops aspects of the game. Seems simple enough to me.

The line between certain people "speaking their minds" and flat out trolling is pretty thin.
That's cool, I didn't realize Shogun was also involved with that.
Again, I'm not saying anyone doesn't deserve their job with UbiLynx.

And the line between "trolling" & "speaking your mind" is only as thin as your skin is.

I love how recently "trolling" has become like a safety net, or parachute that can be conveniently deployed by moderators... I mean, forum developers.

Thank you for the support, I like to walk on that fine trolling line. #YOLO

For any RL employee who is being questioned as to what makes them a "dev" here, any insight into what it is that that person did within the game itself would help put the haters minds at ease.

Aside from that, I think Max has a solid post above ^

I work for a technologies company. We have a guy who works for us that "writes" our software. I on the other hand program this software for customers but don't go around telling people that I actually write it. There's a BIG difference.

I think what YIA wants to know is, who exactly does what at RL, and are the titles these people claim to have valid for what it is they do, and what it is they've done.

I hope this clears up the "trolling", as I too believe YIA's posts weren't intended to be as such.

In the end, I'm not gonna choose a side on this issue. Shifty's stepped up for me, YIA's my boy, I love Max, Rob is kind of cute, and I still think Kush Land 604 should be given a wrench in Evolution (I'll never stop nominating him until it happens + this man is BEASTING his builds on Fusion. Even though Evo's a thing of the past, I can assure you that you'd make this man's life by wrenching him up there).

That's all. Love you guys <3
    Appreciate the love.

Yeah UbiLynx, all we want is some transparency, unless... you have something to hide..?

As my post count suggest's I am a new poster to this forum but have been lurking and reading for some time now. Once again a negative thread gets hijacked by the usual suspects and turned into what seems like a rather personal attack on the guys that produce this game.
It's one thing to slate a game, yes we know fusion isn't what the hardcore was expecting, and after putting some time into evo, yes I can understand the frustration, and empathise, but wow just WOW it's a whole different ball game when a thread turns into questioning who is, and who isn't a developer!
Show a little respect and I suggest if you can't, and you hate the game that much turn your back on the forum and the game and enjoy your life, that is unless your a full time troll with no life
I wasn't attacking anyone, or their job.

I just want to know if technical questions about game development are being answered by the guy that sang the "Welcome to the Future" theme song.. Which apparently would be considered a developer around here.

Yes, our in-house sound designers are most certainly considered Trials Developers. Have you ever played a game with no sound? How does that compare to a game that HAS sound?

    Single Player Career
    Textures
    Modeling
    Multiplayer
    Tournaments
    Game Engine
    Track names
    Track descriptions
    Level Design
    Testing
    Editor Tools
    Notifications
    Teams
    Track Central
    Feed Updating
    Sound engineering
    In game music

These are all aspects of the game that are/were worked on by people that, according to some of the posts in this thread, are not developers. That is completely ludicrous. I do not have time to list specific details of what was worked on by everyone, nor should it be necessary.

That's really all there is to be said on the subject.
