Redlynx is a video game development studio. Everyone they hire is a DEVELOPER since they all have some part in the development process.

    Programmer = Developer

    Level Designer = Developer

I am failing to see where there is any confusion.

I personally enjoy reading YIA's posts. You have to value those who are willing to speak their mind, regardless of what the repercussions are. Does he push it at times? Sure. But it's a cost that's well worth his contributions to the forum.

Unless you actually know what anyone from the studio does each day, then you shouldn't make statements regarding who does what as your opinions are made with no clear knowledge of actual fact. We all have titles, but are those titles the end all of a person's efforts? Nope. Plain and simple here: Everyone you have recently seen post on the forums from an RL or Ubi account IS a dev.

Shogun does far more than "promote" Trials, as does Badger. All of the community people have worked on aspects of this game that wouldn't be considered "promotion". All of the level designers have worked on more than just level design (which requires coding anyhow), all of the sound engineers, texture artists, modelers, designers... they all put something into making the game.

A coder is a coder. A developer is someone who develops aspects of the game. Seems simple enough to me.

The line between certain people "speaking their minds" and flat out trolling is pretty thin.

I applaud you for your thick skin, and calm attitude I certainly couldn't police this forum like you do, and stay professional with my replies!
As my post count suggest's I am a new poster to this forum but have been lurking and reading for some time now. Once again a negative thread gets hijacked by the usual suspects and turned into what seems like a rather personal attack on the guys that produce this game.
It's one thing to slate a game, yes we know fusion isn't what the hardcore was expecting, and after putting some time into evo, yes I can understand the frustration, and empathise, but wow just WOW it's a whole different ball game when a thread turns into questioning who is, and who isn't a developer!
Show a little respect and I suggest if you can't, and you hate the game that much turn your back on the forum and the game and enjoy your life, that is unless your a full time troll with no life

@Shifty: You have a very broad definition of trolling it seems. I don't think YIA is just trying to start trouble.

In fact, I'm pretty sure we had this discussion a while ago. I wanted the same thing YIA does: for the pioneer Trials developers to interact with the community again. And I felt the same way about the definition of a developer. I never meant any offense by it, and I'm assuming YIA doesn't either, but I guess the definition of a "game developer" is more broad than we thought.

Could you elaborate, or humble us a bit, by saying which or what part of the game each of these persons had a contribution to? For example: Shogun worked with the sound engineers on bike sounds, more specifically, he manufactured the overall sound of the engine on said bike. For any RL employee who is being questioned as to what makes them a "dev" here, any insight into what it is that that person did within the game itself would help put the haters minds at ease.

Aside from that, I think Max has a solid post above ^

I work for a technologies company. We have a guy who works for us that "writes" our software. I on the other hand program this software for customers but don't go around telling people that I actually write it. There's a BIG difference.

I think what YIA wants to know is, who exactly does what at RL, and are the titles these people claim to have valid for what it is they do, and what it is they've done.

I hope this clears up the "trolling", as I too believe YIA's posts weren't intended to be as such.

In the end, I'm not gonna choose a side on this issue. Shifty's stepped up for me, YIA's my boy, I love Max, Rob is kind of cute, and I still think Kush Land 604 should be given a wrench in Evolution (I'll never stop nominating him until it happens + this man is BEASTING his builds on Fusion. Even though Evo's a thing of the past, I can assure you that you'd make this man's life by wrenching him up there).

That's all. Love you guys <3

    Hello,

A game is not just a piece of software with nice assets anymore. It's an experience that goes from hearing about it to playing ti and interacting with its community. Anyone having a job consisting of impacting the user experience is a dev. It's not about being related to an asset or a feature. If he's doing a track, or a sound, or testing, or coordinating, or making business decision, or marketing assets, etc... he's a dev. Titles and jobs family are not related.

Any people paid by RedLynx/Ubisoft who has his daily work related to Trials is a Trials dev. Period.

    Cheers,

It's possible I may have misinterpreted some things, and maybe I just understand the rules differently.

    If I may... respectably,
Surely the question is answered by qualifications through education, no?
Game development being an actual qualification afaik?
Makes no difference to me what anyone calls themselves as I am just a customer and only interested in the satisfaction I can get from the end product,
Just as Redlynx and Ubisoft are in the business of producing video games and exist mainly to make a profitable product, (not to push aside the passion for their works therein)
    But...
The guy that sweeps the floor in a cabinet shop is not a cabinet maker,
He may drive a few screws or fit a few hinges from time to time,
May be around the business long enough to even design, build and even fit a few kitchen cabinets eventually,
But still he is not a cabinet maker!
He must hold a legitimate recognized qualification gained through education to call himself such...

Sorry for continuing to drive thread off topic but just had this 2cents to share,
It is a bit of a grey area as is evident by the question on the first place,
From the outside looking in and vice versa, you must see things from both sides to fully understand the argument... just sayin

edit; I am certainly not asking anyone to produce their qualifications but it may help to explain why a question like this can pop up
