So when I have an item selected and want to add a new item, I need to deselect the current selected item before I can click "space" and add a new item. (Using pc controls btw) And the only way I know how to deslect an item is by clicking on the grass where there are no items. And this is very annoying because If I have a water plane below where I'm building I have to place to click to deselect the item.

So Im wondering if there is a button or shortcut that simply deselects the selected item.

No schortcut as far as I know. I would just suggest using a controller. Makes life easier.

I don't know how you move something without rotating the camera first? Ya, use controller. Something like a cheapo gamepad from Circuit City or EB Games/Gamestop. You could also try the ESC button, CTRL-D (deselect in drawing programs), SHIFT-D or pressing everything & writing down what it does.
