For 20 years I designed and built program trading systems for the largest American banks and Hedge funds. Now I'm CTO of a 200 Million Dollar company with over 1,000 employees. By anyone's account, systems design and implementation is something I know a great deal about. And I continue to be utterly amazed at the way Ubisoft is behaving.
It looks very much like this crash bug is still somehow related to managing the devices connected to USB ports. If it is, and Ubisoft hasn't been able (or willing) to fix them for over 2 months, then they must have done something truly spectacularly stupid on the design side. Even worse is their unwillingness to acknowledge a problem and at least claim to be trying to fix it. It makes them seem like all the worst insults hurled in their direction are perfectly correct. They have our money, and therefore no longer care about giving us something for it. By the most generous interpretation, they are eating the chicken once instead of an egg every day.
At this point I wonder if any company could ever recover from something like this. They have alienated vast portions of their market. Even if the industry media is afraid of limiting their access by offending the company and is therefore avoiding the story, the damage that Ubisoft is doing to their reputation can't be overlooked. I strongly suspect that this is the end for them in the PC market. At the very best, they've seen their high water mark. Their next release will be viewed as suspect, even before it hits the shelves, and rightly so. Piracy, which as we know has nothing to do with price, will probably run rampant because no one would willingly pay to be treated as badly as Ubisoft treats their paying PC based customers.
All good socialists like the French, view markets with suspicion. But the truth of the market is that it is the great equalizer. It's where a company is judged by its actions rather than its words. And Ubisoft's actions continue to be truly appalling. Their customers will punish them for it, and the stock market will punish them for that.
That at least gives me a measure of comfort while I stare one more time at my frozen black screen.
When is patch number 8 boys?
Count me in too buddy. You get the pitchforks and I'll light the lanterns. Owning Far Cry 4 has turned into a comedy; if I couldn't laugh about it I'd have to post Ubisoft some faeces in a jiffy bag just to give myself some grim satisfaction. What a shower of useless people they must have in senior management. I hope the company tanks and they all lose their jobs; we'd all be better off for it. Patch, crash, patch, crash, patch, crash, patch, crash, er, hang on, I've lost count.... how many times is that so far?Originally Posted by tcostell1 Go to original post
Pffffftttt... they are collecting too much money from people to even care. I doubt very much they understand the definition of Humiliation!
Oh and remember... Lemming's abound in this world, unfortunately... people with more money than brains and UBI is catering to them
I don't know how old the OP is and I don't want to put a hamper on your rant but I have been saying the same thing about UBI since 2005, back when they introduced the crappy R6 Vegas and GR:AW... 10 years later and here we are discussing how UBI will go bankrupt soon.
Asking for UBI to go down is like wishing the US govt/Congress and Senate will fire themselves so we can introduce new blood with honesty and less greed (lets be honest, where there is money there will be greed)... otherwise, UBI would not be able to get away with that crap here in the US.
Heh. I was just in Gamestop looking for GTA5 for the PC. It wasn't in because the release date has been pushed back to March, probably for bug fixes that should be finished BEFORE they release the game to the general public. Good for them. I'll wait, I'm patient. Then I saw that they had a copy of Assassin's Creed Unity on sale for $29.99. Picked it up, looked at it, thought about it for a moment and then put it back on the shelf because it's still a royal buggy mess and I'd rather play a game than be a beta tester. No sale for Ubisoft today. What a shame.
You have some very good points Phenogen! I played Battlefield 4 as well and their forums were filled with rants. Although I had some early bugs and crashes, they were fixed and I played BF4 to my hearts content. Now I did have an initial boot up problem with FC4 which I managed to fix myself. Looked like a bug to me and I didn't get anything from Ubi support other than "check your drivers" and standard suggestions. But I have been playing PC games for years and can fix most problems. It is a beautiful game and I hope I can finish it without any major difficulty. My biggest complaint is the checkpoint "save" system.Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post
Sorry, English is my second language but perhaps your definition of WORKS differs from what the normal or standard definition is... Also, minor bugs perhaps to you because you may be a PC guru or know your way around PCs but what about those people that know where the Turn ON/OFF button is and that is about it? do we tell them, go F yourself and go learn how to fix a PC before buying a game?Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post
Minor bugs to you means not having a keyboard/mouse capability on a PC game because the devs were lazy enough not to port this correctly? Or perhaps you don't want to blame the devs because we know they know how to do this but UBI did not allow them to finish this properly before they rushed it out in Alpha or Beta State?
I applaud you for having a mean and lean system but, in this case you are a minority since we know most people are not internet savy nor should they have to be to play a decent game.Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post
Magnificent Game? yet you can not access any form of Co-Op play? what am I missing here? Say you bought the game for the sole purpose of playing Co-Op and or the Campaign... now what!Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post![]()
No, the USB bug is a lazy coding bug since ALL of my other games (granted Shooter games only) work flawlessly. Why do I have to trim and lean to be able to have a mean game?Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post
Over the Top? perhaps your bar is set low? perhaps you are one of those guys that think if they speak their mind UBI will decide not to make PC games any longer and you don't know if you can live with that? Perhaps you have the spine of a gummy bear and need to man up a little more because believe you me, if we all stand together UBI will have no other choice than either finish their product, go bankrupt and sell those Franchises to some one else that can do the job and that is a Win Win for all of us.Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post
So what's your deal then, are you a Ubisoft shill?Originally Posted by Phenogen Go to original post
By the sound of things, your setup with Far Cry 4 runs fantastically - well bully for you! Here's an idea then; why not go and enjoy your magnificent game with it's sumptuous visuals instead of detracting from criticism that is perfectly valid?
I have a top end machine I built last year, with a 4790K and a GTX980 and while I'm able to play the game wonderfully, it's a matter of how long for until I get the crash to desktop bug. Sometimes I can play for several hours, sometimes maybe 20-30 mins, but sooner or later, the game crashes to desktop.
This was released almost 3 months ago, and it has hard crashing as an issue. If you understand anything about software development and debugging, you would know that hard crashes are treated as a top priority to diagnose and rectify in the BETA stages of development. Sometimes unforeseen circumstances and variables mean that a title is released to market with the potential to lock up, however the developers would need to work on resolving issues like this that crop up, again as a priority.
With Far Cry 4 we are, at time of writing, on version 1.7.0 and the crashing issue persists. This, in and of itself, is unacceptable. It does not appear to affect you, but it affects me and many many other customers. I play with an Xbox controller for Windows. This is a peripheral I've used for years and never had any issue with, so why should I not play the game with this? I played FC3 with it no problems. Compounding this issue is the fact that Ubisoft seems reluctant to admit there is an issue at all. Not only that, they're releasing paid-for DLC whilst the problem is ongoing. I downloaded a patch today which I hoped was version 1.8 but actually there's no information and I suspect it's a content/asset update for the Hurk Deluxe DLC. That's shocking. They have a priority 1 level issue with the PC code crashing due to, who knows, USB hardware conflict and rather than focus on fixing this, they're putting effort into DLC for a product that for many people does not work properly yet.
So if you insist on staying here rather than utilising your free time to play this MAGNIFICENT game, spare us the condescension and patronizing; none of us want to be told how grateful we ought to be for paying for a beautiful but flawed and downright irritating product that has major stability problems.
Fella - I'm not going to read that massive wall of text that which completely overlooks the fact that I said I don't want to be patronised.
I'm nearly 30, and I've built several PCs for myself. This machine I have has 16GB of RAM. Don't school me on how to use a PC or list of good house-keeping rules for making sure it works properly. I have no stability issues with other games and I've been playing PC games for years. I know sometimes there can be issues, but none in recent memory have affected me like this.
The proof of your character and your intent is summed up not in that huge useless spiel but rather in the line at the end that suggests I get a console if I can't be bothered to follow your advice. I didn't pay you any money, I paid it to Ubisoft and what I and other people have is a game that we can't play properly, not because our PCs are at fault but because they didn't do a good job of coding and testing the thing. Also, I have a PS4 and other consoles, money isn't the issue here, it's the principle that I have bought something that doesn't work properly, please try to understand that.
You might only mean to offend cheats - but please realise that I'm offended by your assuming that I'm stupid when I'm not and know that if you come back with the same kind of stuff that you've written above, I'm going to assume you're stupid and, unlike you, shall actually have some evidence to support my assumption.
