If you already have the same gun and there's no ammo in the gun on the ground, then nothing will happen.
If you can't find more ammo use a trainer, get your ammo then turn the trainer off. No sense wasting the map.
I avoid having too many encounters simply by staying off roads.
When I travel far I usually do the drop/wing suit.
Otherwise I run crouched in the forest. I use a cheat to speed this up.

Or download the latest Fling Far Cry 5 trainer and temporarily use some of the old folks aids to get you through the hard parts of the single player game.
With these games I always manually save every so often. The OP can't do this?
Look for your gamer profile. gamerprofile.xml in documents/my games/ far cry 5
Look around for a mod by sunbeam and the EAC bypass. For single player anyway it might solve your problem.
I don't know why you think that you will gain perk points easier. You get a perk point every few completed arcade games or so. Whether you are at level 1, 84 or over 250. Where I was before I started...
I was at level 253, as about all I do with FC5 is single player maps. I loaded an old save from the end of the first island, and my arcade went back to 1. i wonder if there's a way to save the arcade...
