How to have multiple saved games in Far Cry 4.
This issue keeps coming up, so I thought I would share what I know about creating more than the one far cry 4 game on a PC. First there are always reasons why we like to do more than one game at the same time. Other people in the family want to do their own game or you want a game on easy, normal and hard, or a run at 100% completion and a spot where you already have the Buzzsaw but now want to decimate every fort.
The devs did not put easy access menu driven mulitple game saves like in far cry 3 and Far Cry 1 had about 60 load spots you could choose from to play any section over again.
When far cry 4 saves a game its usually at a checkpoint but this may only work while your actually playing and die for some reason, you come back to some spot often at a checkpoint, but the save files seem to work at putting you back at the completion of a mission rather than a checkpoint after a save and quit from the ESC key menu closes out the game.
The game save files are found here:
Start>computer>x86 program files> ubisoft>gamelauncher>savegames>"long number"> hit open and hit 420 file folder> then you have save and save.upload files
There are 4 files in the 420 folder and they range from 30kb to 80kb so they are very small files, they get bigger the farther along in the game you are.
To save your game, create a folder on your desktop with FC4 YOUR NAME or something to id it and then number your saves and describe them on your subforders.
Open the 420 folder and copy and paste the 4 files to your saved game folder and your done saving your game. If later you wish to reload that or another game, you open the 420 folder on your hard drive and copy the files for later and delete them after copying. Then paste in the game you want to run and when you load the game up you will be in that saved game. It will most likely load you into a completed last mission spot and not a checkpoint reached spot, so you may have to redo some game play. All the progress, guns, skills, etc will be correct.
In order for this to work well if your not sticking with one game or you are switching back and forth between 2 or more people playing FC4 the cloud on UPLAY will most likely get confused, therefore I have my system disconnected from the cloud and also have it set to play offline and always play offline.
I have replaced my save game files plenty of times and it has always worked fine and I have sent my saved game files to 2 other forum members who stated the game ran normally for them.
So, while its more work than FC3 to have 3 games going, it actually has more versatility by being able to have as many saved game spots as you like without limitation other than having to manually do the switching. Takes me 2 minutes. The only real problem is you always have to remeber to save the game after you stop playing and that doenst always happen.
