First of all
I apologize if many threads like this have been created already, but I think it's important that these messages get across to Ubisoft and reinforce the community's spirit for the Far Cry map editor. Things I say may have been said already or already resolved, but
Ubisoft needs to hear from us.
The following post may seem like a rant or just a wish list, but it is only put across, because
I care a lot about Far Cry and it's editor, like many others.
Why add new content, but then take away what was great?
To me, the new features of making your own single player (and co-op soon I hope) missions is a great new addition as it allows the map editor to be used in a completely new way, adding much more versatility. But, why does this have to come with the cost of dropping competitive multiplayer support? Have the option of making a map for either singleplayer/coop or comptetitive multiplayer seems like a natural step forward, but getting neglecting a feature that drew in so many people to Far Cry and a feature that fans expected of the series just doesn't make sense. I'm sure you must have read and seen many people moan about this and say things like "I'm supremely disappointed" and "I'm withdrawing my pre-order". Please don't ignore these people, because its a huge part of your fan base.
- Add competitive multiplayer support- spawn points and objectives like before.
- Allow weapons and vehicles to be in multiplayer maps for a classic Far Cry multiplayer experience. (It's good to have zip lines and turrets back)
Please expand and fix what's already in the editor.
The new features of the editor such as adding waves of AI, AI interaction points, Outpost objectives and such are brilliant and hold a lot of potential to make nearly infinite scenarios, but they are not without their problems. Here are several things I've picked up on and read from other people that could hopefully be fixed/added to make it a more complete package.
- Adding AI settings for individual AI placements- Currently the AI you place on the map will just have am ind of their own (naturally) and just wander off in random directions. Fair enough, there are the AI interaction points which add some control to them, but they are not guaranteed to draw them in and eat up AI memory. Also, it would be nice to keep the AI in a stronghold or outpost without them rushing out when reacting to gunfire/explosions, leaivng it empty when you get there (or you never get there, because you've killed everything already).
Suggestions- Give them their own individual settings such as
stay put, follow this patrol path (similar to how the road tool and map limit is drawn)
Have reaction settings such as stay put and defend, investigate with caution, rush the enemy or add a reaction radius to each enemy that can be changed in size (like the brush size) so they only respond to a certain area around them.
- Placing silenced and/or customised weapons- It's great having set weapon placements to give the maps balance, but currently they are all loud except for the bow. Having silenced/custom weapons allows for more stealthy maps and more variety in general. Also, an option to start without any guns would be great.
- Being able to throw rocks to distract enemies like in single player- simple, but this would be a lot of fun.
- Fix the wave spawn settings please- Currently it seems like you cannot change and save the options that control when the next wave is spawned such as (one dead, 25% dead, etc.) This ends up with everything coming way too fast as it always defaults to "one dead". Could you please fix this and/or clarify how it works properly, especially in Outpost maps where there is a reinforcements wave too.
Sorry for a long post, but these points needed to be stated clearly.
Many thanks for reading.
Feel free to add you own suggestions.
