Just finished it myself on hard (PC), took me quite a few attempts but got there in the end, i found it to be the hardest thing in this game which i liked, games are to easy these days and developers need to start making them more of a challenge.
On my first run there were basically 3 hard parts of the game.
1. Escape from Durgesh Prison
2. Boss fight with Yuma
3. Boss fight with dragon bird (does anyone know what it's actually called?)
After just having easily escaped Durgesh on my 2nd play through with total stealth though, I can now say the only hard parts for me are the Shangri-La influenced boss battles. I was getting the hang of cover and stealth tactics toward the end the Yuma battle my first play through though, so I think it may come down to just big bird being the biatch of the game.
Out of curiosity though, can anyone clarify the following...
1. Is the Shangri-La final boss mandatory to finish the campaign?
2. Can you abandon mission while on the final Shangri-La battle?
3. Is there any reward for winning this battle (other than XP, etc.)
You can finish the campaign and kill or let Pagan go and Kill or let Sabal and Amita go without ever taking any forts, or doing any of the side missions. The few you do like Yogi first that sends you to Shanath doesn't count as a Yogi mision, and the first 2 times you see Longiness it doesn't count as one of the 4 Longiness missions. I have done this. Can you get 100% completion? NO. you do have to do the first Shangri la mission to progress to get the Willis mission however. That one you can just take out the Rakshasa demons near the 2 mani wheels and then on the top area, sneak around the side of the last area and run up on the ribbon pathway to the bell without ever taking on the Scorcher and cut it free and let it destroy all the demons. Ha Ha Ha. Tiger kity will come up with you FYI.
That's a word that covers the entire demon faction, not one specific creature.
"The Rakshasa, also known as the Hunters are a enemy faction that appears Far Cry 4."

The bird on the above wiki is only referred to as their "leader". Seriously? Couldn't Ubi have at least given it a name?
"leader of the Ancient Rakshasa"
@Andy,
Doesn't really cover what I was specifically asking, if the Shangri-La boss fight has to be done to finish the campaign, and if that mission can be abandoned.
Only reason I asked is it seems some may end up wanting to opt out of it or quit it and finish the game due to some struggling with it.
First off, if you bothered reading, the boss found in the final Shangri-La mission is called Raskshasa. The faction is named after the boss. You can watch the YouTube video I uploaded, which can be found in this topic in spoiler tags. Secondly, you don't need to complete the last four Shangri-La missions, because they are side quests. The first mission, however, is part of the main storyline. The reward for the mission can be found in the progress menu. I am sure you can abandon the mission, like any side activities.
Also, Far Cry wiki is not made by Ubisoft.
^I didn't watch your video because I already know how to beat this boss, and I don't have hints turned on so there was no text onscreen to hold my hand. It was pretty obvious to shoot it in the mouth I thought.
I just looked at the onscreen hint though and although it does say shoot the "Raskshasa" in the mouth to take it down, that does not prove that only IT is the Rakshasa, or their weird version of spelling it.
I've been doing a bit of digging and Wikipedia, Wikia, and Britanica speak of Rakshasa as many demons of Hindi mythology that can take several forms, not one specific monster demon that commands others. So I think the hint onscreen actually refers to the bird as one of a group of demons, rather than the name of one.
That is IF Ubi were diligent about researching it, as they usually are in most things cultural or architectural in their games. It appears they weren't though, because they didn't even spell it correctly.

Just had to bump this thread to say on my 2nd run on Normal difficulty I have found that by FAR the biggest trick to beating this boss easily is to as mnb said move far away from where you are when the bird is summoning it's minions, because they will spawn near you.
All other tips pale by comparison. I just beat it in what felt like easily less than 3 min using this method, and I never once had to attack any minions by bow, takedown or tiger. Sorry kitty, you're not even needed as a distraction here, let alone attack cat. I also never took enough damage to even deplete one bar of health, so I never had to heal.
If you place yourself on the other side of the map from where the minions spawn, they will just shoot at you from a distance. The AI in Shangri-La seem to be scripted to sling arrows at certain distances, and only rush and melee attack at closer range, Anytime you're close to them you just take more damage and get slowed down by the geriatric healing animation.
Distance is your friend here because all you have to do is stay opposite of them and run back and forth avoiding their arrows and the bird's fire balls. The beauty of it is, the bird always comes close after a distant or spawn attack, so you don't have to even chase it.
If Game DVR works with FC4 I'll be making a video of this battle on my Hard run through. This battle is easy, in fact it's good speed-run material.
