Splitters, Impulses...
Hey guys, Iīm new and not a native speaker, so sorry in advance for my english.
Iīm new to the editor and just made one track "rainy sunday" - but i see a lot of potential in the editor and would like to get to know it a little better. I have a good knowledge of access and vba programming so i think i can handle some advanced stuff.
I watched all 32 video tutorials and tried to find an answer here, but havenīt found one yet, so iīm trying directly with a post.
Maybe some of you would be so kind as to take a look at my track online. At the very beginning thereīs a ramp where one has to hold a wheelie for 5 seconds before the path is cleared. I wanted to visualize that by putting 5 little lights there (kinda like in a gameshow) and have each light light up, with every second that passes. So 5 lit lights = go ahead.
I found some stuff in the editor but havenīt been able to come up with a solution that works. I tried 5 on/off events with the 5 lights. Before that, i put a switch (in the properties, i found 4 ways to react to incoming signals) so that with every incoming signal one of the lights would light up. Before that I put something with an impulse-giver (sorry, dont konw the name, i am at work, not at the console, PS4 that is). I think the combination is pretty decent but i dont know how or what to put there to give a signal every second so that the switch lights up up to 5 different lights in a row. In addition i wanted to make sound that goes with the light, kinda like the beeps at the beginning of every track. The programming must be the same, just the result is sound rather than lights going on....
Any help with that?
Also i wanted to know, if there is a programming order for the tool-cards. I mean, which cards are properties or parents to what. Is there a distinct order how to work these cards?
Thanks guys

hi bud
there is other tools which can simplify how this works but i found by going the long way around things and seeing how they actually work rather than just knowing what it does gives you a better insight into how they actually work and then become more easy to use for future builds and gives more room to be more creative.
So i would use an impulse delay splitter for each light and have them each set to 1.00 2.00 3.00 4.00 and 5.00 if the first its to be included in the count if not then you would only need four. This will turn the lights on one after another. im sure 1.00 = 1 sec if not then just play with it and find the time you want and adjust accordingly. Have the trigger box linked to a green impluse splitter and have this linked to all 5 limpulse delay splitters ( this can be linked to up to 8 other events at once ). Make sure you have linked the delay splitters to the light events
The lights should come on one after another and do the same with the sounds just instead of light event use a sound event and sound source ( which ever suits ) but remember to tie the delay filter to the sound event
I dont think you need an effect event for this but cant be sure off the top of my head but dont think so.
I think this can be done an easier way with the clamp filter and other things but this way you get to see how they all actually work and i find that this helps with the process of learning the editor. Did for me i haven't a clue about editors or computer stuff.
hope this helps if not im sure someone else will help out with a better way.:) atleast you will get a far idea from it anyway.
its an awsome tool the editor although it can look very complicated the more you play with it the more you understand it.. as for the parents and properties i dont what they have but worked my own guide for this which really helps my own style.

hey funk - thanks so very much for your time and effort youīve put into your reply. I did just like you suggested and had my hopes low, because for days there hasnīt been one single reply. So I took my chances īcause I knew I was close to solving this. Just had to try a little harder. I made it happen before I got the message, that someone answered my thread, so "do it yourself" was really kinda important to understanding the editor a bit better.
Like you said, it took an impulse splitter connected to the the light-events. But the splitter had to be connected 1.) to the first light event and 2.) for each of the lights 2 and 3, to an impulse-delay (targeting Light-Event 2 and 3), one set to 2 and the other to 3 seconds delay. I originally had just 3 lights, not 5, but the chain of events is of course just the same...
So as long as the rider is in the placed marker, the lights go on one after another. Works perfectly. I canīt even imagine now, that thereīs an easier way to do it. :)
Thanks a lot. Very much appreciated!

glad you sorted it bud.
Im not clever at explaining things so sorry if i missed a few things out but thought you would get the main point of it and then play your self.
I havent been doing this for a very long time my self and i have to use a makeshift programme of my own as a guide , to understand alot within the editor but i found that once you ave watched the tuts from evo there is no better way to learn the editor than to play with every tool in there and experiment. I have put things in my previous tracks that dont even need to be there but used the whole building a track as an exercise to say learn 2 3 or few things regarding all the tools.
DIY is the best in the editor as you tend to learn things by mistake lol or just learn other things by getting something by accident but there is usually lots of people around with help , a member or one of the devs usually reply quickly but least you managed to solve it your self which i always find it more satisfying and i only ask if i am really stuck.
enjoy building dude:)

Hey Funk!
Just wanted to say, out of curiosity i came across your (vast amount of) tracks and thought they were funktastic, dude!!! :D
Must have been a real time-consumer. You have really good ideas and i made you part of my feed-list. I canīt imagine the hours youīve put into this, just for the decorations - let alone some of the physic-constructs.
So, just wanted to say thanks for your tracks and keep up the good work. Hope I can reach that kinda level as well some day. But i donīt have that much time on my hands, iīm afraid.
May I still add you to my PSN as a friend (whats your nick there)?
Have a great day!

yeah sure bud , my name is the same as on here dude. funktastic-
Real nice of you to say kind words about my tracks , i love making them and it always makes it that much more better when someone appreciates them. There is hundreds of mistakes in my tracks and the driving line has only really started to improve. As it happens i work for my self and this allows me to have around half a year off because i also take care of my kids which gives me plenty of time to create. Also i dont sleep much if i do i do its in the editor somewhere behind a rock lol:p
keep building tracks and when you feel one wasnt so good usually thats the one that gain you more experience , keep pushing for feedback as people tend to not want to say too much if its a bad track but i have found the more your wrongs are pointed out the better understanding you get at building. Iike i said finding out how the indevidual parts in the editor work tends to open up so much more of the editor than people know , and finding how things work rather than just knowing what job it does works better for me and gives me other ides how to incorporate things into tracks. I also have found that some forget the main focus to all this and i have at times my self. Thats to enjoy what you are doing and be creative , listen to advice given but try to put your own spin on it or style maybe. The whole foundations of building tracks for me is being creative and building a world that once never exsisted. To be honest i sometimes forget about the dl and forget that i am actually maing a track and not a story built world lol..
One of the best tips i could possibly give if any is get your self known within the forum , how you do it is up to you but if your known people will tend to help more and give you feedback. Its hard to get contstructive advice from long timers if they dont know you. Brake into the circle bud dont wait for it to come to you , people sometimes need a push to see the new and good in peoples work. Get your self a link on here and add your tracks. It doesnt matter if you are new to building this will only aid in advice and people playing your tracks.
If your tracks are not as good yet to attract advice from experience builders than get known and they will come :p sounds like a line from field of dreams hahah
have fun dude thats the main goal.....:)
