Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
I travel on the London underground a few times a week, everyone is glued to their phones but i've never spied anyone playing Heroz. There are a lot of games being played and i like to sneak a peak and see who's playing what in case i might bump into Onze or another UK based player but to no avail...anyone else seen a another player by accident?
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Not me...One of my students a year ago said he had a friend who played the game a lot, but that is about as close as I have ever come to running into anyone who played Heroz.
I may try to make my way over to that side of the pond sometime within the next year, however, so perhaps I'll see you on the Tube?
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Yay Eise, i will look out for you. You must come before the 3rd of march though, or I wont be able to spot you!
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
I have not seen any strangers playing Heroz either, but I guess it's pretty unlikely if you consider the data:
[list:1c5uehid]There are approximately 1600 active players daily these days and there about 7,000,000,000 people in the world, so that's about 1 in 4,375,000 people that play Heroz. (yeah, this stat is skewed, since players are concentrated in areas, but I'm a simple man...)[/list:u:1c5uehid]
[list:1c5uehid]Some people probably just don't play in public or rarely do.[/list:u:1c5uehid]
[list:1c5uehid]You'd have to be close enough to see that they're playing Heroz. For example, someone could even be in the same train-car as you, but on the other end playing and you wouldn't know.[/list:u:1c5uehid]
[list:1c5uehid]People may play multiple games and so even when you are able to sneak a peak, they may be playing one of their non-Heroz games.[/list:u:1c5uehid]
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
I've never thought about this before, but nope, I've never seen anyone playing heroz before. I personally play in public a lot. Waiting outside a store for my wife, at work on lunch, etc etc.

Yes I see your point Arianj, I guess i thought from seeing so many people playing Candy Crush/Bejewelled that i might bump into Onze or someone. Massively unlikely, as I don't think there are more than 10 uk based players. Can only think of 4 and of those there are only 2 of us regularly playing, (assuming Onze is from UK)
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
I wonder if RedLynx has stats based on IP or something else. It would be interesting to the know the distribution of players across countries.
Can anyone from RedLynx comment on this?
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Good idea! Any chance if we can get this info for the last 30 days? Or 10 days?

Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Yes, we do have raw access logs that include IP addresses, but it's not a simple operation to distribute them between countries. I'll see if I can get something nice out of them that I can give you, when I have some time.

Great! Thanks AnttiKi!
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
We have too much data. Could you be more specific on what statistics you want?
Obviously I can't give you everything, but something like the percentage of users coming from a list of countries is fine (imo). For this I would need the list of countries or even better, IP ranges.
Or maybe you can find me a tool that parses Apache log files and gives me the data in a static format. Something that is not AWStats, but can still run on a Linux terminal would be nice.
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
That's cool maybe austria could be displayed in that list if it is not too much hassle.

I haven't used it, but maybe Webalizer will do the trick: http://www.webalizer.org/
According to their features list:
* Fully supports IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. Includes built-in distributed DNS lookup capability and native Geolocation services.
As for a list of countries... during the 2012 Olympics, Alvy started a thread (http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/viewt...p?f=71&t=11231) that generated a list of representative countries. That may be a good starting point, if you're still looking to trim down the list:
1 USA 3036
2 CANADA 2997
3 TEAM GB 2972
= FRANCE 2972
5 AUSTRALIA 2966
6 SWEDEN 2954
7 NORWAY 2896
8 AUSTRIA 2884
9 GERMANY 2854
10 INDIA 2626
11 ITALY 1396
12 FINLAND DNF
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
This would be interesting. While you are at it could you have a look at what keeps going wrong that stops some of us from being able to play Heroz
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Sorry, I'm not the best person to do that. Does the issue still exist?
The statistics are going to take a while. I took access logs from the last 14 days and there were about 5 million hits and over 3 million unique IPs.
The country stats are not going to be good in any way as the GeoIP database seems to be missing about half of the IPs, but I'll let my script run anyway.

Thanks for the effort on this. That's crazy that there are over 3 million unique IPs in the last 14 days. Based on the 10-day high score list, there generally seems to be about 3400 active players these days. I can understand that people probably play in different locations (home, work, school, etc) and I'm not sure how phone carriers handle IPs when you're using cellular, but still seems crazy to have that many unique IPs. That means that on average, each player is connecting via ~1000 different IPs in a 14-day span. I know the TOS crew is crazy, but I can't imagine they are pulling up the average that much. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Yeah, that seems really odd, but the logs never lie.
This is actually going to take way more time than I expected. I've had the script running for 18 hours now and only about 200k entries have been processed.

Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Sniff. I had the script running on my workstation and of course it got rebooted by automatic updates when I was on sick leave. I _think_ it finished before the reboot and here are the countries that had over 10k IPs each:
[list:3iqmc8k0]1705534 N/A
334333 United States
189437 France
132295 China
91648 Germany
90124 United Kingdom
77851 Japan
52424 Russian Federation
43497 Canada
35913 Sweden
35285 Finland
34801 Norway
26483 Spain
21223 Italy
16671 Ireland
16594 Australia
15434 Hong Kong
14495 Netherlands
12610 Austria
12440 Switzerland[/list:u:3iqmc8k0]
For the *nix guys out there, here's what I used (Bash):
[code:3iqmc8k0]
IPS=`cat ips_uniq` #file containing IPs gathered from the log files and then piped to sort and uniq
for i in $IPS; do geoiplookup $i; done | cut -f2 -d ','| sed -e 's/^[ \t]*//' >> countries.txt #this part took almost two weeks to run
cat countries.txt|sort|uniq -c|sort -r #final output
[/code:3iqmc8k0]
The data is now about a month old, but I hope it's what you wanted anyway. Also, please don't ask me about the N/A part.
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Happyflow, are you playing Trials or Heroz primarily? My current streak goes back to Day 105, so I guess you can say I'm oldschool. And from Austria, too http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
Re: Ever seen anyone else play heroz?
Nice - thanks AnttiKi!
I know it's not fully accurate, since this isn't a complete list of countries and I'm not sure how to handle the "N/A" items, but I added a column before the counts to show the relative percentages for the countries that were processed.
% Count Country
[26.67%] 334333 United States
[15.11%] 189437 France
[10.55%] 132295 China
[7.31%] 91648 Germany
[7.19%] 90124 United Kingdom
[6.21%] 77851 Japan
[4.18%] 52424 Russian Federation
[3.47%] 43497 Canada
[2.86%] 35913 Sweden
[2.81%] 35285 Finland
[2.78%] 34801 Norway
[2.11%] 26483 Spain
[1.69%] 21223 Italy
[1.33%] 16671 Ireland
[1.32%] 16594 Australia
[1.23%] 15434 Hong Kong
[1.16%] 14495 Netherlands
[1.01%] 12610 Austria
