How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
My next upcoming track uses almost rocks exclusively for the driveline, mainly consists of the flat slab/monolith/square block pieces as I learned cliffs aren't good for driving at all.
Flat areas seem to do fine on their own, curved ramps are a bit harder to make, so I will likely use invisible ramp pieces to smooth the curves.
How do you guys handle rocks in tracks?
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
i don't use rocks at all for the dl^^ maybe sometimes but i allways but an invisible plank under it^^ the behavior of the bike is weird sometimes on rocks and they are too glitchy so ppl tend to mess up a good run on the rocky spots http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif but if i would use rocks, the one you use only, and allways place something under it or put custom collusions at them http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
The small rock's collision are correct, the big cliff rocks aren't . Just use many small rocks instead the big ones and it's ok.
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
use custom collisions on surfaces that are uneven or bumpy if your incorporating them into the driving line...
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
Any rock you'll drive on, even if it seems smooth, place a custom collision or invisible plank, ramp, etc., and make the rock decoration only. ALWAYS. Rocks are bastards!

enough said i think...totally correct...If you MUST use rocks, then try to add some more in the way of decor on the DL, such as a wooden bridge...adds a bit more detail to the track..but, it all depends on your theme..

the golden rule is testing . and test again with some friends . friends will usually spot something you missed .so just use your rocks you want then run it . if it dont work can you fudge it with custom collisions /change the piece or try another rock .do some quick tests of rocks you think look good and make some quick obs-tickles to see if they work . x
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/think.gif i think i must be the only person who doesn't mind riding on rocks, in fact i quite enjoy them, im not a fan of using collisions on all surfaces because i can usually tell when someone has done that and it just doesn't look, feel, seem right or natural because getting the edges right is very hard, the top of the rock can be nice and flat but the edge for me anyway just doesn't seem natural and riding smoothly over a lot of bumpy looking surfaces just looks unnatural too. I tend to build and then test the whole track a lot adding the occasional custom collision where needed but definitely not everywhere or the ride just doesn't feel right and feels like you glide over everything.
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
Thanks for all the info, right now I covered all the driveable rocks with the metal ramp pieces (collision sound off), but gonna test it without them as well.
Re: How do you guys work with rocks (collisions)
So in the end I decided to not cover the rocks, and make the majority of track out of the "monolith" pieces, which seem flatter then the "flat slab" pieces, oddly enough. Only added a few tiny collisions on angled rocks.
