Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Would you like to be able to download and share custom objects? Well now you can! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image..._surprised.gif
Introducing TrialsPrefabs.com, a website where you can search, download and share custom objects from TE:GE. I've been working on this website for the past month and a half, trying to make it a nice place where people can contribute to other people's track creations. I hope that in time it'll become a great repository for everyone to use and benefit from. You don't need to register to submit new custom objects but if you do you will be able to rate and comment on every single one, additionally you can submit videos of your tracks that contain object(s) from the website for everyone to see in the video section.
I've also created a simple software (Trials Object Manager) to manage your game's custom objects from the desktop. You can easily move objects from one group to another, rename objects and delete them. Most importantly, you can import Zip files downloaded from the website and also export any object to a Zip file in order to share it on the website, provided you include a screenshot of it. If your object is complex you can include some instructions for people to understand how to set it up.
If you have comments, questions or suggestions about the website or the software you can leave a message in this thread or use the contact page on the website.
I look forward to see new creations be added on the website and used in many tracks to come.
I'd also like to thank bassline001 and kalianhagle for helping me test the website.

This....is amazing. Thanks for all the work put in the site. Here's hoping the PC playerbase embraces this as they should!

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Thanks InquisitorFIN! I've had a lot of fun working on it, combining two of the things I love most: programming and Trials. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif
And now I'll finally have a little bit more time to finish some of the tracks I've been working on.

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Found a last minute bug when importing Zip files in Trials Object Manager. It has now been fixed and the updated version (1.1) is now available for download.

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Good job! This can serve many people, it's amazing! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image..._surprised.gif
I like the creations made by me, although do ugly haha but this way you can get more ideas and share http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/clap.gif
Thanks! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/dance.gif

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Sounds awesome, nice work making this available, definately comes in handy in track making and sharing creativity.
I just gotta make sure my current favorites are ordered properly as some of my glue/groups have really bad pivot point orientation as they are mostly quick saved stuff.
(ideally Glued on a proper X Y Z axis pivot point so you can reset position to default/rotate much easier)

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
So, this is like sharing favourites for others? Wow, glad that this was made! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon/eek.gif (Sadly not possible with the Xbox 360 http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon/sad.gif)
Well done a thousand times! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/clap.gif http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/clap.gif http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/clap.gif
I will try to upload editor codings for skill games. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...con_asleep.giff it works with my computer)
edit: It would be also cool if a mod could sticky this thread, because it will help people very much!

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
One benefit to the PC....thats pretty cool! Might even be the first on TE:GE to get that coveted TF symbol!

No, me is going first!!! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on_twisted.gif lol http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif Won't likely ever happen since there are too less people still playing this game. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon/sad.gif

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Seems like the Object manager cannot work properly for me at the moment since I use a different Drive for windows documents (symbolic linked some windows documents libraries to my D Drive to save SSD room)
My Save game folder exists, it's just in a different folder but I can't assign the proper folder to the program and I don't wanna mess with the savegame files themself.
I know it's new and an awesome idea, but there might be more people using non-default folders for their save game (other then c:\users etc etc) would be nice to have a way to pick a custom path for save games http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Nice work on the site/program. I'll try to upload a few of my favorites/setups today but I noticed today some don't have the proper orientation from when I saved them to favorites (they are turned). Is there a way to get them orientated properly? Or did I do something wrong

Thank you xXRajadoXx, can't wait to see some of your creations on there, I loved the japanese themed objects you made for the Dojo track. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif

Thanks TeriXeri, I certainly hope it will. I'll be taking care of your issue with the Object Manager today, I should have thought about people using a different drive to store their documents in the first place.

Thanks bass, and thanks again for helping me with the testing http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif When adding a favorite make sure you're high enough from the ground or the object will be oriented all wrong, as for saving, i'm not certain, maybe group everything to make sure the orientation is correct.. I'd have to look into it.

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Trials Object Manager has been updated to 1.2. Download TOM v1.2
Release Notes:
Fixed a bug when importing Zip files (thanks CannibalShogun)
Added an option to set a different documents path (default is Users/[username]/My Documents), from the menu: Tools->User Document Folder->Set Folder (thanks TeriXeri)

I do not like to use objects in my tracks, created by others users, but this can serve for example to learn several things from the editor, as freeze the bike and rider, or other events.
I look at it this way, as a tutorial on how to do things http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif

I'm pretty sure you're not the only one but like xXRajadoXx said, it can be used as a tutorial source to learn from others. If you're worried about multiple tracks using the same objects over and over, as the database grows you will see less duplicates being used.
-
Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
It's up to the people themselves if they want to publicly share their objects, like others said, I think the nicest part is sharing complex trigger/event systems etc.
Anyway, tested 1.2 and it picked the correct folder right away, Importing ZIP works as well as the more then 20 favorites in a group .
Thanks for the quick updates, love the program already.

No problem. Always happy to help.

It will be specially useful for beginners and I'll probably upload some pre-made setups, like for moving objects/randomizer...
With the custom objects we can only hope most people modify it a bit (wich I always will). It just gives an opportunity for more people to build better tracks in less time. If we can improve the quality of TC with our own custom made objects (wich you probably never use again without modifications) what's the harm? It's not that you have to share your best work if you don't want to http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
currently i don't see much issue or negative effects this sharing will have on tc
but i would hate it if fusion would get a favorites central to share objects
-the vast majority of tc isn't creative and would just spam the best looking objects till you are as bored of them as stair/b ball tracks , don't move's etc
-tracks can already look pretty much "coppies" without even using identical objects
-the sharing of some coding wont help much, doing some modifications can easily mess it up certainly if the user used this system because he lacks the knowledge to build it himself, let alone understand what someone else made
in its current form people might find some usefullness and objects are unlikely to be spammed because it isn't an ingame feature to be abused by bad creators
i would love if redlynx made collabirations between friends much easier on fusion but never wanna see a object central
-
Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
First I'd like to see fusion's editor or even just a gameplay demo/trailer before even thinking about that version, just seeing from the world concept art there might be just so many more types of items from the start (other then the mostly industrial from HD/Evo baseset (without DLC). So far I've seen City/Desert/Forest Art and I think I read snow somewhere, here's hoping it's actually gonna be in the game http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
With some more advanced editing stuff like scaling/painting objects/textures etc (my wishes, not certain if it will be actually in) we might have a near endless custom item pool.
Right now Evo gold has some limitations on items mainly coloring stuff white, or lights (often have to resort to camera filters)
I tend to either use Rock Slabs, Planks+Logs or Metal objects for drivelines.
DLC filled a lot of item gaps on xbox especially on historic themed items for western/roman+greek/medieval/pirate etc, and futuristic/pixelated via other objects+primes. Also the much larger pool of music and 2 other worlds. I'm still hoping it will come to PC in some form before fusion.

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Thank you for making the website and the app! A very good resource for track creators. Especially for stuff like trigger/event chains, animations, and learning how to set it up. I shared a little prefab, now awaiting your approval. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif

You're welcome http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif I approved your prefab this morning but still have to test it out, and a few other new ones. But with TC being offline right now I think i'm going to wait until it's back up.

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
Just a question about the extraction, which saved games are the favorites? I don't know which ones they are, because there are files with many numbers but don't seem that there is any favorite section.

The folders that look like this : "0000000000000xxxxxxxxxxx-0.o" (the smallest folder names) are the ones that are favorite objects, the other ones are track folders. You can also open the "displayname" file within that folder with notepad to check the name of the favorite. And the -0 in this example means that it belongs to group #1.

Ok, I've got that! Thanks http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif

You can zip the folder containing the files using winzip/7zip, or use my software (Trials Object Manager) to import/export zip files. It's way easier than doing it manually..
You can find the software on the main page of the website and in my signature

OK, I've zipped it, and wanted to share one, but there was a message saying wrong file type, but the file even shows a .zip behind.
For some reason the Trials Object Manager doesn't work, so I need to do it manually, but I need your help why it doesn't want to share even I did put a zipped file and an correct image.
Oh well, that's how the computer system works with the endless data problems for someone who doesn't know about it. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif

Hmm that should not happen.. I'll try uploading a manually zipped folder but I don't see why there would be a problem..

You might have to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Get it here)
-
Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
I've tried uploading a manually zipped file and didn't have any problem. But I think I know why it did not work for you, your ".zip" file is probably not one, the real extension is probably hidden.. (maybe it was "myfile.zip.zip" which might cause a problem) to make it visible open Windows Explorer, press ALT to bring up the menu, then go into Tools -> Folder Options, go into the "View" section and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file type". This should reveal the real file extension. If the file is named "myfile.zip.zip" then remove one of those ".zip"

mmh, I'm using Firefox most time. Gotta try IE!
@psycard: I'll try that tomorow!

Re: Sharing custom objects, there's a website for that!
The "Wrong file type, must be a ZIP." error when adding an object on the website has been fixed. It was related to winrar's zip files not being detected as legitimate zip files.. thank you basslineux001 http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
