Came back to HD, change of pace
Came back to hd to see where my skills are after a full year of pounding evo's butt. MAN, I'm killing my old records! The slippery back wheel is a little hard to get used to, but all of the skills picked up from evo still help.
Time to pick up my slack rank http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/wink.gif
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
I got THD a few months ago for the first time and hated the bike physics, the phoenix is so heavy, and I agree, the back tire has butter on it.
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
I can totally understand it being hard to love after first playing evo. the physics in evo are just beautiful. Evo really is a great learning tool though for understanding the leans and bunny hops. As hard as I tried to get good at HD at first, the bouncy physics just always felt a tad out of my comprehension. But coming back after being awesome at evo, all of a sudden I can actually control the bike now, some of theses tracks I had about 50 faults on and now getting 5-10 is child's play http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
i was playing last night and it takes a bit to get used to the old physics. really miss how raw and cool that game was .and the tracks are classics
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
I totally agree that the tracks were much better. The tracks were designed to be speedrun instead of just being visual spectacles like many Evo tracks are.

They also had that sense of rawness to them that really made them amazing IMO, I can't quite describe it, but for example compare Tired Hill or Jolly Jumper to any of the evo mediums and you'll get what I'm saying. Evo's tracks feel almost too clean and smooth.
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
Idk, I prefer riding the evo lines...but that's me. I think the super clean lines, if anything, make the game easier to understand and easier to develope solid skills. Most people while playing HD just kind of bumble and stumble over everything, and never quite learn the art of hitting the line smoothly. Evo really helps the player focus.
HD really had a great sense of style and, I believe, it was a lot funnier too. It is really fun to go back now and then and see this game running soooooo smoothly. Whenever I see all these physics objects everywhere I keep thinking " no! Don't do that! Your gonna kill the frame rate!" http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif

I think the problem with Evo tracks are the tracks like Rollercoaster, there are too easy to hit smoothly, making trying to take time off a pain in the *** since there aren't any shortcuts. For me personally, I like tracks like Train Yard, where there are tons of small shortcuts that when strung together create a great run and I think HD did this better. I also hate tracks like Ridge Tracer that are dominated by one shortcut.
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
the main thing with hd aswell is how close the obstacles are .evo seems spaced out and big yet hd seems really tight and technical even if it isnt. if you get what i mean
Re: Came back to HD, change of pace
Ive recently also come back to HD & am finding it a breath or fresh air, im finding it strangly satisfying that the faults on track are attributed to me and not the game laggin out, also the physics personally feel more realistic - lets hope that Fusion will prevail in fusing HD + Evo http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
Im enjoying it so much i may even try to get the marathon achivement to get the xtra t-shirt on evo http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
