Discussion: Waiting to post a time until the final minutes.
It's been seen on occasion...that some players are known to, or are suspected to, sign out of Game Center while playing 1000 HeroZ in an effort to avoid posting both their time, and especially their replay of their time.
Then they'll wait until the final minutes of the game, at which point they sign in and post their #1 time. A time that nobody knew they needed to beat, and now they only have a few minutes to try and improve on the new #1 time.
I'll start this discussion with my own personal thoughts on this sort of gameplay. Feel free disagree. I won't take anything personally.
I would consider anyone playing 1000 HeroZ EXACTLY as I described in the 1st 2 paragraphs of this thread....to be THE best example of the worst kind of player this game needs. There's nothing worst than seeing your time at the top of the leaderboard and crossing your fingers for a win, just to see a new #1 time posted inside of 5 minutes remaining in the game.
Now that I've put that out there.....I'll let you chew on this. I personally HAVE signed out of Game Center during the early hours of the game. I've done that when the line that I'm using to get my time......is a completely different line to the current leader. However...once somebody has posted a replay that is essentially the same thing I've been doing...I've gone ahead and signed in regardless of the time and I have NEVER, EVER, waited until late in the game to post my time using my scenario.
I guess I do think that there is a bit of latitude when it comes to the last part of my scenario. I know that some members of my own team completely disagree with me on that. If I was making a chart to show that latitude it would look a little like this.
1. (The way the game should always be played) - Always be signed in to Game Center when playing 1000 HeroZ.
2. (cowardly/strategic) - Not posting your replay b/c nobody has used your line yet.
3. (unsportsmanlike and cowardly) - waiting until 4-6 hours before a gameday ends to sign in and post your time. In other words, waiting until the next day so the people who play while you sleep can't see your time.
4. (unsportsmanlike, extremely cowardly and borderline cheating) - waiting until minutes before a gameday ends to sign in and post your time.
While I play the game using #1, 99.999% of the time. I can't in good conscience not call myself out for being guilty of #2 in the past a few times ( I should probably just be shot on sight). It was a total waste of time anyways, since the fastest line will always be found by one of the amazing players in this game.
#4 should never EVER be done in this game, and if RedLynx updated the game so that the only times that would be updated on the leaderboard would be times made WHILE signed in, I would be all for it.
Ok....those are my thoughts...what are yours??

Is this is a reaction of my win in yesterday's race? I actually got my time when it was only 40 seconds left of the day. didnt know it was possible to choose when you posted the replay. The replay is a part of the game so I agree that its bad if players make use of this.

I cannot confirm, nor deny whether it this had anything to do with your win on 452. Congratulations on your win btw http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/clap.gif I was already beaten long before your time was posted http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon/doh.gif...so I don't really have anything personally to be upset about, as far as your win goes.
With this post, I just wanted to make it clear in my opinion that that sort of play isn't something any top players should do, b/c it will set a bad precedence in the game and some players might try to copy. The risk in making this post to shun that sort of play, is that some players that aren't even aware of it, will try to use it.
THE BOTTOM LINE: If any player considers themselves a legitimate player and wants to be respected as one they will never use such a tactic which can only make others like myself lose total respect for them as a 1000 HeroZ player.

I absolutely agree with your sentiments Rooky, although I would be hamstrung if the above rule were in place. I only ever play under rule one, thats very British! (like when we refused to use the crossbow in wars as it was unsportsmanlike like) I often play HEROZ when i'm on the underground subway train, (or in hotel basements) with no signal. often get my best times here and the game updates when I get out of the tube, and back into the real world.
I play a lot of games that rely on data signal/gc and heroz is the only one i can play offline which is brilliant. I have been known to exit the subway in the middle of a journey to log in my score in before the end of the day, likewise i have missed posting my best time for the same reasons
There would be no real way to police this, we really have to rely on the honesty of the players and if we know that someone is behaving like this we can only shame them, they have not technically cheated, we call it ungentlemanly conduct over here.
Also I can't be the only one who goes hard at in the last half hour of a race often getting the best time then in a genuine fashion, but then my times are a bit **** so it doesn't matter so much http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...con/violin.gif
Have we any idea who is playing like this deliberately?
Re: Discussion: Waiting to post a time until the final minu
You make some very VERY good points Mr. alvyronson. So I guess when you get right down to brass tax, its all a matter of INTENT.
No, I don't have any specific cases of people that I KNOW have done this, b/c like you said....there's no real way of policing this. Certainly not from my end. But I have seen players that have been far outside the top 10 or even top 20 throughout the entire race...yet in the final minutes of the race, they go to #1 in just ONE move. That to me seems very suspect. You would typically see them move up the leaderboard in a couple of moves at least. After all, by the end of the daily run, the top spot is not exactly easy to get.
Having said that...I've called out people (who's word I trust) that I suspected of doing this...and they claim they did what you had suggested. Play right up to the final seconds to try and get that win, and it was merely a coincidence.
I'm here to say that I'm vowing to NEVER, EVER, use such "ungentlemanly conduct" for personal gain. I'm hoping that others capable of using such exploits will refrain from it as well so that this game remains as fun on Day 1000 as it has been since Day 1. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on_mrgreen.gif
Re: Discussion: Waiting to post a time until the final minu
Holding back times is poop. If you're not in for the competition, why are you playing heroz anyway, right?
That said, please bear in mind that we have people in different timezones playing. I for one am scoring my best times after work, which would usually be in the last two or three hours of a heroz day. Also, not everyone who scores their best run in the last minutes of a day is guilty as charged. I remember the glorious day where I beat Eis in a league match in the last...I think it was 9 seconds before the day ended. Man, that was so satisfying! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on_mrgreen.gif
Re: Discussion: Waiting to post a time until the final minu
I didn't know this was possible. It smells like cheating to me.

Well that was my feelings on it. Absolutely not everyone is guilty of it, but there was a time there for awhile that that you could almost count on top times being put up in the closing minutes, which to me just reeks of wrong doing.

I'd be furious, for sure. But anyways, he won the final match of that round and kicked me out after all, so I guess he couldn't care less in the end http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/wink.gif
