KaliniuS' Tracks - TTJC-Eden
Re: KaliniuS' Tracks (please play and rate)
Update: I released "16 Bit Trip (v2)" after tweaking the routes on the original. Please play it and explore all the routes!
Re: KaliniuS' Tracks (please play and rate)
I have significantly improved the Silent Hill track and made even more flow improvements to 16 Bit Trip. I fully expect these 3rd versions to be the definitive versions. I will release them both simultaneously on Wednesday, May 30th to coincide with the title update. Feel free to play the originals so you can observe the changes and improvements!
They will be called:
Silent Hill: Epic
16 Bit Trip: Final
Re: *** KaliniuS' Tracks *** (NEW RELEASES TODAY)
... And they're live! I urge everyone to play my latest (and definitive) versions of the Silent Hill and 16 Bit Trip tracks.
Re: *** KaliniuS' Tracks *** (New Release: Tornado!)
New track released last night/ today. It's called "Tornado!"
Re: ** KaliniuS' Tracks ** (1st Extreme Track): Cave of Myst
I've just released my very first extreme track called "Cave of Mystics." See how good of a time you can get on it http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
Re: ** KaliniuS' Tracks ** (1st Extreme Track): Cave of Myst
I like the theme you build in, especially the horror tracks like Silent Hill and Creepshow. Cave of Mystics looks awesome as well (watched replay, I don't do extremes)! Visually your tracks are great, I just wish they weren't such a bumpy ride. There's way to many things to just slam into or are slow to get up, my opinion of course. Silent Hill got better by the epic version, but I still have to creep around that track because I feel like I'm going to be thrown off my bike at any given second. Maybe that's what you were going for? I don't know...If you could get the theme, visuals, and a smooth ride in the same package I think you would have something awesome to play!
Re: ** KaliniuS' Tracks ** (1st Extreme Track): Cave of Myst
Gave your new extreme track a couple of runs today. One obstacle kills me on it, but my mate did it fine, so I'll put that on me. But a couple of others just weren't quite right. A couple of the climbs are made from cliff pieces and because of this are just plain bumpy, making them inconsistent. A bump, lip, block, anything is fine on a climb, when its deliberate and consistent, but the cliff pieces just react strangely to the bike and are best avoided http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...con_asleep.gif've made the mistake once and won't make it again! lol). Stairs (imo) dont make good obstacles, they make irritating obstacles.
But the biggest issue by far was one of your "multi step" obstacles. You have used three "stepping toness (or slopoing stones? I forget)" to make it, with each one angled and a gap between them. I think this is an awful obstacle purely because of the stone used. Due to its shape, it causes the rear wheel to lose traction and causes inconsistency. The obstacle would be plenty tough enough with nice smooth Flat slabs to negotiate and would work well. but stones completely spoil it for me.
Its a track that is really close to being good, but falls short imo. The setting, atmosphere and decoration all work well. The driving line is smooth and doesnt have sharp turns in it. But the actual line you ride on and the obstacles arent quite right.
You seem to work very fast in terms of days (which doesnt mean you are short on hours put in), so my tip is this. Test SLOW. I always try to run my track on several days and try to get testers to try it on different days as well. Sometimes things seems easy/dificult, smooth/bumpy on different days. So testing it on multiple days really helps to smooth out any small flaws in the track and even the scenery. I also tend to find that I want to add/change things as I go along and this process slows me down and makes sure I dont rush a track out too quickly. It also means I tend to end up with a far better track on day 4 than I had when it was "finished" on day 2 (or days 5 and 7 or 1 and 3 or whatever arbitrary number you care to use! lol).
This all sounds like its a bad track, but its not that bad. Hopefully this is all constructive criticism and if anyone disagrees with what I've said, feel free to say so. This is just my opinion and others may disagree with me!

Thanks for the feedback and the comments, guys. I truly appreciate it.
@ BCDraven: The Silent Hill track was designed to have players not fly through it. In fact, I don't like tracks where you can just hold down the right trigger and sit back for 90% or more of the track. I prefer to have a series of obstacles in my tracks instead of jump - jump - drive - jump - jump... Not all of my tracks are as bumpy. Tornado and 16 Bit Trip are both pretty smooth riding http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
@ Barrybarfly: I know what you mean about the steps and the sloped rocks. I meant for the surface of the rocks to be slightly uneven because of the additional challenge it presents and because it looked more like a natural formation (which is what I was going for right there). It's actually not so bad of an obstacle once you learn it. You have to take each platform slowly and from the bottom to get a good running start. The stairs can be a little annoying, but I don't think they're too difficult to get up. Plus, it's not that long of a staircase. Your point is well-taken though. My extreme track doesn't "flow" as nicely as yours but I think that's what makes it more difficult. Your advice on taking time to publish tracks is well-taken. I also am quite impatient when it comes to making tracks. I'm so interested in the final result that sometimes I'll rush the track at the end without giving it as many proper test runs as the track needs. As a result of this, I think the medal times I have set for Cave of Mystics are pretty brutal for most people.
Again, thanks for taking the time to play my tracks and provide feedback!
Re: ** KaliniuS' Tracks ** (1st Extreme Track): Cave of Myst
just played your extreme track and breezed through until those POS slanted stones at least use something completely flat. i play ninjas on a regular basis and i still dont get as frustrated as i was on those stones.
