I don't view it as torturing myself at all. I'm actually really enjoying being able to finally focus on my Trials HD goals without having to test like 10+ new Ninja tracks per day. It's really something I've been looking forward to for a while, so I'm going to enjoy it now that I can!

The only reason I haven't is because I want to record it, and I haven't had many opportunities to try, given my current setup.
A friend of mine who owns a laptop is actually going to move in with me in a few weeks and live up in Tahoe for mountain biking and snowboarding for a year, so I'll have plenty of opportunities to try once he's here. I got my original 6-fault platinum run long ago, when I lived in a house where my office and living room were closer together... and my 3-fault run I linked above I got in one afternoon while my aformentioned friend was visiting... I'm sure I'll zero it pretty easily once I have the chance. Same goes for the original Ultimate Endurance. As far as I know, no one has recorded a 0-fault run on it yet... so that will be pretty cool. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif

Midnight club is easy if you play it safe. Original Ultimate Endurance is easy too, i've zeroed it twice offline. Not sure bout those level 5 ninjas tho but good luck anyway.

Yea... I'm more worried about that too. I know I can knock out the tournaments and the rest of the Level 1s, but to be honest I MAY give up on the Level 5s... we'll see.
EDIT: Just got a random comment on this video:
"You're hella god daymn good, I've notice you are currently? number one in evolution for a reason."

The global leaderboard is glitched (think Ajuvix, but with thousands of other players) so it is meaningless for the time being. Hell even sipe from here is number 2 globally. Thats when you know its messed up. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif
Not sure why he would think youre on top, theres no other tags that even resemble yours.

I know. Just because I haven't gotten the game yet myself doesn't mean I haven't been reading all the new threads. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon/geek.gif

Have you heard about BME Pain Olympics? Might be something for you. Crazy masochist.
Your dedication to this game is unprecedented. Kudos.

I get what you're doing Mal, compulsions can be a ***** lol. I think it's cool you have the willpower to resist but can't wait to see what you can do with the new Phoenix. Lotta Ninja's ( some pretty good! ) flying up on TC already.

Re: Malachyte's Trials HD Goals - No Evo 'til they're done!
You're a sick man, but I can respect the goals. At least by the time you start with Evo, the ninja skills should be ironed out a bit. Currently it's been standard fare for ground stuff (jumps, inclines, etc), I haven't seen much in the way of bounces, though. And there is one technique I can only call a glitch that I saw last night... freaking horrible, I hope it doesn't become common. It's like a front wheel hook over a bar, but you swing yourself fast enough and the forks expand and when you let go of the brake, you'll fling yourself forward. Just horrible.

I seen that same technique!!!
I dont like it at all. I think its sooooooo stupid. But i bet once more people find out about it you will see it more often. Its kind of tough to do. And the forks glitch out a bit and sometimes when you go to jump to the bar you go right through it. Pretty stupid.
I dont even like ninjas in Evo. The physics to me dont really feel good for ninjas, they are perfect for speedrunning though http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif

Seriously guys, I'm not doing this for masochistic reasons. You have no idea how much I'm going to enjoy finishing up my Trials HD goals in peace without getting new messages constantly like:
"New Ninja track out!", "I made new Ninja track I think Level 5", "I changed my track so you should test it again", "Oops I forgot medal times, hang on I will update", "I don't like how you rated my track so I'm going to make a harder one", etc. etc. etc.
I was almost looking forward to Evo's release more for the side-effect of being alleviated of my Ninja responsibilities in THD... and now that day has come, so I'm enjoying it! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif

Well... I guess this means I probably won't get as addicted to Evo as I did to HD, since I love technical stuff and don't care much for speed-running. I guess to put a positive spin on it this means I'll be able to focus more on other things in my life. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif

Well thats just my personal opinion. There are a bunch of ninjas out on Evo already with people all over them. Im just saying that me personally i like the physics for ninja tracks. I barely liked them in HD, only ninja 1s.
So this is all opinion based. Once you get Evo you will be able to decideo for yourself. Dont let me sway your opinion. I would be extremely devastated if i was the one who turned you away from Evo because of an opinionated comment.

http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on_twisted.gif I released a ninja the night before Evo hit. Not sure if you took notice. Sorry!

Of course. I'm still going to get Evo and draw my own conclusions. I was just saying IF I end up agreeing with you, then perhaps I won't get as addicted to it as I did to THD.

So you did! Awesome run, just the way I intended. Doesn't seem to be any exploits despite the fact that I didn't have much time to test. Thanks!

Some killer runs in there! Your front wheel planting (during landing) is dead on these days... you're totally going to make it through those level 5's!

Thanks! I think I will get them eventually too. As a matter of fact, I typed up a few paragraphs about The Hard Way in the Ninja Track Video Leaderboard thread yesterday:
Quote:

I realized that the reason I haven't passed any of the Level 5s is that I spend a few days on one of them, get frustrated, and then go back to zeroing Level 1s, and I don't try again for weeks. Then when I finally try again all my muscle memory is gone. I know that sugatin was able to pass The Beyond NJ simply because he played it constantly every day for an entire week after TBN released it. As tedious as it sounds, I know this is the way to go if I am serious about passing the Level 5s.
So today I started playing The Hard Way over and over and over and over. Every time I turn on Trials I will play The Hard Way until I've passed it. No other tracks.
And guess what? My persistence is already paying off! For the first time EVAR I passed the 5th obstacle in a real run! Unfortunately I did so with only 8 minutes remaining. I spent 5 minutes passing obstacle #6, and then timed out on #7.
Yes, this was very frustrating, but it also helped me realize that it's definitely within my skill level to pass this track. Actually passing the 5th obstacle in a real run changed my perspective from "ugh, this is impossible, I'll never do it" to "holy crap I think I can actually pass this!"

Re: Malachyte's Trials HD Goals - No Evo 'til they're done!
Saw that just after I posted in here (doh!). I'm thinking that you're on the right track, attempting the same track over and over. I do that when I can, as well, but I also interject watching videos of it every so often so that I can see what I might be missing or need to adjust. You have the raw video of your individual obstacles, so you can watch it all in super-slow-mo, too.
Good luck with it! If you can make it there, I'm sure you can kill off the rest of the track.

Re: Malachyte's Trials HD Goals - No Evo 'til they're done!
Congrats! And why is it always the stupid faults that get us? It can't be a gloriously in-flames and flying-through-the-air type of fault, just a stupid tip onto your nose type. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...s/icon_lol.gif

Looks like you're getting close Mal, now go knock out those remaining level 1's and 5's and get on Evo already!

I'll be taking my time with the rest of my THD goals, because my local mountain bike park, Northstar, just opened today. I want to get in as much riding as I can this summer, so I'll be playing a lot less until the snow starts again. Last summer I was so absorbed into Trials and the Ninja Leaderboard that I didn't go riding as much as I would have liked... gotta make up for that! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/smile.gif
Totally off topic for this thread, but here's my favorite trail at Northstar. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...icon/dance.gif
The actual trail doesn't start until 3:12. I just wanted to show that you have to work a little to get to it. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif

Hey Mal, want to reply on your YouTube comment about your ability to pursue your own goals
These are the words we had on YouTube:
Chekka85 wrote: "Wow man! I am really really? impressed about how eagerly you pursue your own goals!! That is a very amazing characteristic that could get you anywhere - even in real life!"
Malachyte wrote: "Haha, thanks! I have contemplated that idea? myself from time to time. Now if only I could learn to apply this characteristic of mine to something that actually matters... like my career. I only seem to be able to apply myself like this when it comes to personal interests like music, mountain biking, video games, etc. :-/"
here is my answer:
No! the actual fun is not the video game. Your THD goals are simply pure hard work. That's not the fun.
The fun is the feeling of success whenever you reach one these goals.
It only feels like fun cause you are very good at it. And why are you good at it? Because you do it hours a day. Excercise is everything.
Now this is getting philosphical, but I'm very interested in your opinion and experience about that.

I like this unexpected intellectual and philosophical tangent my Trials HD Goals thread is taking! Let's go with it!

I disagree... somewhat. I really find the process of trying to 0-fault most Level 1 tracks very fun. Passing Level 5s... not so much. So you're right that sometimes what drives me is only the feeling of success or sense of accomplishment. But in most cases I really do enjoy the process as well.
I think another relevant point is that I'm somewhat of an adrenaline junky... that's why I do extreme sports like Downhill Mountain Biking, Mountain Unicycling, and more recently Snowboarding. I know it seems really strange to bring this up in relation to video games, but Trials really does provide some great adrenaline rushes. On my 0-fault run of The Midnight Club I was damn near having a heart attack during my entire run on Greatest Hits (the last track). The same is true when I'm on the last few obstacles during a potential 0-fault run on a Ninja track. It's addicting!!!
-
Re: Malachyte's Trials HD Goals - No Evo 'til they're done!
I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same heart attack when I tried to platinum Test Your Might in Evo. Its truely addictive.
But the fact is, you could have that fun and adrenaline feeling in Evo as well. But you set your goals and stick to them.
You also agreed to me that it is sometimes only the feeling of success that pushes you forward. You could have that feeling during other activities as well - in real life e.g....
You know, the reason why I'm interested in your opinion about that is that I somehow have the same problem. The problem is that I do not dedicate enough to my real life goals. But I experience the same when it comes to video games. At some point, I simply give up. Cause I think its impossible, or I'm sick of trying.
Then I saw this thread, and your goals. I was like: Yeah, he is never going to finish those Level 5 tracks...
But now you did it!! Its unbelievable!! (at least for two tracks).
If you are able to dedicate so much to your video game goals that you even reject from playing a whole new (maybe even better), more fun game, then you have to be able to apply that to some other fields.
What is your experience when you tried to stick to real life goals?
