Tarnished experience [SOLVED]
I'm a big fan of Trials and I've been itching to get my hands on Evolution. I downloaded it last night and was blown away by the effort you guys put into it - give yourselves A MASSIVE PAT ON THE BACK http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on/biggrin.gif
However...
When I got to the end of my second track (single player), I started to get issues with saving my track time (and ghost I presume). It persistently failed to connect. Track after track, I would have about a 10% success rate in submitting times. It was also clear to see that my friends were also suffering this problem as their times would be present on some tracks but not on others. This really ruins a whole part of the single player game as you want to challenge your friends times.
Now I understand that there is a burden with calculating the sweet spot of server capacity on launch day for a game. Over-committing could incur large expenses - I get it. Unfortunately though, the lack of this functionality has tarnished my experience of the game. After speaking to fellow gamers this morning, it seems they were also "put off" by the patchiness of the leaderboard/ghost times.
It seems to be that ghosts/times of friends can be loaded in the background. I saw this quite often whilst playing, that ghosts would suddenly appear halfway through a track - this is a cool feature. What I don't understand is why my times have to be submitted at the end of the track only and that I have to wait for this process. If it fails, then no time is recorded - why? Can't it submit the times in the background in the same way that they're loaded? Or at the very least, store the times locally and then re-submit them at a later time. This would be much better than the times disappearing into oblivion.
It's not going to stop me playing - but it did take the shine off the game which is a shame considering the amount of effort that's been put into it.
Re: Tarnished experience [SOLVED]
This issue has been solved. Microsoft increased the leaderboard server capacity to meet the huge demand. The game is selling at record breaking pace, so unfortunately these kinds of issues are hard to avoid completely.
If you encounter further leaderboard issues, please post them to this thread: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.redlynxgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=8047">viewtopic.php?f=77&t=80 47</a><!-- l -->

Like I said in my post, I understand that on launch day you will get a high demand on the servers. What I don't understand is why does the game insist on making you wait to submit the times at the end of a track? Why can't it submit them in the background (and therefore keep re-trying if it fails). Or even store the times locally and submit them whenever it can - which is the best solution since it then doesn't matter if the servers are over-burdened, as the game can submit them later.
Having times submitted late is better than not having them submitted at all.
