My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
I really like Trials 2 and I hope I can start a discussion with some developers (and also other riders of course) about what Trials 3 should be/look like.
Why I like it:
I play this game mostly because I like the handling/physics soooo much. In an comparison/review I wrote that I mostly dislike the weird physics in Trials HD.
So please Redlynx, leave the physics in Trials 2 the way they are now. I think I'm not the only one who thinks this is true.
You guys simply made a near perfect game regarding physics and bike control.
I think you guys should focus on other things.
Graphics:
I'm playing Trials at low quality because that way the path is better visible so it plays more relaxed, normal quality is so busy.
I understand today's games are all about "who has the best graphics in there game", but I personally think the current "big games" are so beautiful that everything is so confusing. I definitely choose great gameplay over nice graphics.
The graphics in Trials HD where sometimes confusing, but I assume a pc version will have adjustable graphics Just like Trials 2. (very low, low, normal or something)
Camera:
The camera in Trials HD is very annoying sometimes, it doing his job perfectly though, but sudden camera movements doesn't really help setting a good time, right?
So I think the camera setting "direct or action" should stay.
Other modes:
Any bike in Trials HD is going way faster then the one in Trials 2. Thanks to this fact tracks can be much more extreme, bigger and faster.
So perhaps Trials 3 could have a normal mode (Like how Trials 2 is now) which counts for the main global rankings and where you can only choose 1 bike
A more extreme mode where you can ride on a faster bike. This would count for a separate (less important) ranking.
Global ranking:
Trials 2 has one global ranking and the only thing I dislike is that the tutorial tracks are also counted http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...con_asleep.gif've seen that tutorial tracks are not counted in Trials HD anymore, right?).
But Trials 3 probably needs more modes then race, flip, wheelie, dynamic. Thereby I think there should be one main global ranking what counts for these things. And other separate (less important) rankings for skills games or something.
Achievements:
Achievement are awesome! There should be more then 200 in Trials 3 http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on_e_smile.gif
Because it makes the game just a little more varied. Any you have a target for the game. For axample "King of the beer" faultless, or Bad vibes (falling just before the finish on a hard track). That's just fun to achieve, right http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image...on_e_smile.gif
I think Trials 3 should have (summary):
- A level editor
- Same physics, handling, camera
- Normal mode (Counts for main global ranking)
- Extreme mode (Counts for other, less important global ranking)
- Skill games (Counts for other, less important global ranking)
- More achievements
- Maybe a multiplayer feature? (But I'm to tired to think what that should look like http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif )
I hope I bored you, thanks,
Harm
Re: My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
First of all, i repeat that i haven't played THD, so i judge from the countless videos i watched on youtube.
I would like to see an optimized version of Trials HD, while some... areas of discussion are:
- Camera
Even if i never used direct cam in T2SE, the action cam in THD seems a bit more... wild than its predecessor. Some tweaking wouldn't hurt.
- Handling
In THD bikes seem way less bouncy than in T2SE. I think it's better that way, but i'll probably need some time to get used to the difference.
- Level Editor
Of course with full mouse support and no limits in sharing (i.e. friends-only). I found this the most important issue regarding THD on XBL. I understand it has to do with restrictions regarding the console, but it keeps the sharing from spreading and... getting out of control. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif
- Achievements
The more the better, as already stated. And of course, they should involve doing crazy things of any kind. Achievements that have to do just with the progression in the game aren't really interesting.
- Multiplayer
About skill games, it would be a great idea if there was a lobby where people would gather and chat (maximum number of 8 people or less to keep things from lasting an eternity and servers from exploding). Then one by one could compete in the selected skill games, while the others watch and keep chatting.
About normal races, something like the ghost feature, except that the ghosts (maximum of three people?) are persons racing that time. Gather in a lobby, pick tracks and start racing.
Of course, the multiplayer part drives (or rides, to speak in trial terms http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif) the idea more far than a "simple" port/tweak. But i'm just throwing the ideas for the sake of discussion.
Re: My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
When i look at the vids on youtube, the bikes seem way to small, their handling seems very, and i do mean VERY static, nowhere near as smooth as trials 2 bike and overall impressions are quite fun, but are sadly being overrun by the issues i just pointed out, Trials 3 should not be like that, or atleast i hope not.
Which leads me to the best suggestion ever which is this

If you can implement that, then it doesnt matter anymore, the game will be a huge succes, because you got the high competitive level that we trials 2 players are used to, and you got the insanity of extreme game modes as a bonus, in which you can choose different bikes and just go beserk, that is really the best of both worlds, and i would pay 50 euro for that, easily!
The most essential part for Trials 3 is to have it feel just like Trials 2, but with a heck of a lot more content and minigames, as long as the competitive side of it has one bike, just like T2, then theres no stopping this game from being so damn awesome xD
Re: My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
Nice Harmless, a vocal trials rider who knows what he's talking about. We need more hardcore players behind us to speak up. I agree with pretty much everything you wrote, and I've played both games..
Re: My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
I have trials HD and 2 SE and I personally prefer trials 2s physics a lot more as well, and as a Motocross rider I can vouch that the physics in trials 2 are way more realistic. But then there's the money factor, Trials 2 is harder to conquer so less people buy it but the true fans love it, trials HD is easier to conquer so more people buy it but there are no (or fewer) true fans.
Just my opinion anyway.

Indeed, just ONE bike. Look at Trackmania, 1 car for each category. You can download other cars, but those are just skins.
Re: My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
for me just trials 2 second edition with same physics , outdoor enviroments , editor with global sharing option and mini games.
Please dont make trials 3 so arcade like HD , i prefer realism above arcade

Yes, I agree with the full 100% once again http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/image.../icon_razz.gif
Outdoor must be interesting to indeed.
Re: My thought about Trials 3 (DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ)
I think outdoors would be too hard to create as you would need a background image that would flow in a very long or very short track without being repetitive, although it would be cool if you could change the look of the wall/floor so that if you removed a wall block it would seem as though you were looking outside.

I don't think that's the real problem technically speaking.
I think outdoor would mean "sand", and perhaps making sand dynamic for an editor is really hard, just objects you can place like in the THD editor are much easier.
But who knows, the Redlynxs developers are really skilled, so perhaps this idea will be for real sometime.
