Campaign / Dynamic
Hi,
Just started playing this sim..been left in box since release, so i've done a few missions on the aliied side campaign. My thought so far are quite good....I have a heavily OC'd 7870 and 8mb Ram, yet apart from the odd micro stutter and slight stuttering when close to buildings, it runs smooth all the way with Max settings and 4xEQ AA and 16xAF @ 1920x1200 Res..not bad..However
The hardcore among you will probably protest at this comment, but i always feel let down by the campaign in flight Sims, theirs simply no immersion. ROF have sort of gone in the right direction with Squadron rosters a semi dynamic feel to the campign and at least a slight feel of being back at base.
Anyway, back to COD, am i right in thinking that if i was to start a new campaign, i would follow the same missions again??, are they varied like IL2 was (to some degree)?, and basically, is there any mod sites which enhance the SINGLE player mode where the campaign is concerned, or even offer up alternate campaigns?, of courser a dynamic campaign would be ultimate, but im guessing, thats out of the question..
Thanks
P.s, while not mind blowing, the Graphics are a definite and marked improvement over IL2, as is the very detailed terrain..quite impressed with this aspect

CoD's campaigns are 'static' campaigns- ie they are just a series of missions that run in a linear fashion, the same missions will appear each time you run a campaign.
There is some variation possible as there is a 'branching' choice in a few missions depending if you succeed or fail the mission criteria.
Immersion is very much a matter of taste, some people love dynamic campaigns, personally I found IL2's dynamic campaigns boring after a while as you seem to be flying ~4 mission types in a random order. RoF career mode is similar (imho).
There is a dynamic campaign system for CoD, so it's not out of the question

Can't vouch for it as I actually like the more detailed briefings/storyline that a good static campaign brings.
CoD's supplied static campaigns are not generally regarded as being particularly good, infact there are 'redone ' versions of them, eg

I would highly recommend trying this one (but then if you read the credits I would say that wouldn't I:p ).
Also look around AIrwarfare site (it's a sister site to M4T) as there are some other user made goodies such as skins to be found:cool:
This After Action Report of the Luftwaffe Redux campaign may give you a taste of the sort of thing/style to expect

There are other user made campaigns available
http://airwarfare.com/sow/index.php/...line-campaigns
I would highly recommend trying the Redux RAF campaign as a start though, before trying other campaigns which may expect a higher skill level/familiarity with CoD. I would not recommend my 'Spitfire on my tail' to new pilots for instance as it requires some discipline, and is more 'realistic' in that you will fly ~1hr long missions , often without meeting opposition- not everyone's 'cup of tea'
While not as great a choice as available for IL2 there are already more campaigns than for certain other flight sims;)
Mods- there is really only 1 mod pack for CoD so far, Team Fusion. This is very much a community effort. It is not specifically offline but does offer some nice additions (again I may be slightly biased here;)) in particular high altitude flight modelling is massively improved (ie you can actually reach and fight at actual service cielings of ~30,000 ft)
I don't think I'm allowed to give direct links to it here but it is to be found at ATAG forums

Have fun

Thanks for your help, i'll take a look at your suggestions and install at least one of the options. Im hearing that the new IL2/777 game might well let COD back into it..that would be great, as this title should have been a winner.,
