Disagree 101% http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
Even though I'm a Yank and a Pratt & Whitney fanboy, I must admit that the Spit was the most beautiful aircraft of WW2. As to the most beautiful ever? It might be, but I would propose the F-86 as at least its equal!
At least among WW2 fighters, nothing beats Arsenal:

Imho, if it hasn't got two engines, it's not the most beautiful.

It all went down hill from there.

....most beautiful car ever!!!!!!!
j/k - though it is kind of charming http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies...miley-wink.gif
Aircraft beauty trolling.
Well I like the Albatros, The late Bf-109s, plus most Italian planes, especially the Reggiane Re-2001 and 2005, the Seafire mk 47, Fw-190 D, Mig-15... I guess these share a sort of waspish charm!
Stunning that this thing actually flew. Looks like it would fall out of the sky if it wasn't flying at gazillion knots.Quote:

Hughes H1 Racer. The short-winged version is sexier, but I can't find any good quality photos of it.

Depends - minimum touchdown-speed at about 150KIAS, might be as high as 190KIAS depending on gross-weight.Quote:
Landing it must have been real interesting...
Takeoff was more interesting..
Take-off-speed at max gross was 230KIAS with a max tyre-speed of 240KIAS and a max gear-door speed of 260KIAS.
"Clean" takeoff was at about 190KIAS.
L/D is about 0.4 better than an F-4's and max sustained g is 7, which is on par with the unslatted F-4 and tops for it's time.
So, after all, those "tiny" wings did their job pretty well.
+1 on the Starfighter Treetop !But I like the Gloster Meteor amongst those Ive seen in the metal. And the EE Lightning is a fave of mine but more for the brute power than its beauty ...Underside of a Spit DOES look very organically beautiful ...That french fighter does look pretty but in a same-ish way like say a Ki100 bubble top or MC202 etc etc ....
Wouldnt like the Bf108 at all...nor WW1 planes mostly...not even that mad about that twin engined british "Hornet"?And yeah the Dora in pic DOES look well
Starfighter wins by a long length IMO though ...
EDIT Just seen that H1 racer Treetop posted ....VERY NICE!
Yeah, the H-1 definately is a contender http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
Two of the most asthetically pleasing aircraft ever built

And I'm sorry, but no jet can vie for the title of the most beautiful aircraft.
Lots of British aircraft on here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif
I heard that Freddie Kruger's (Robert Englund) dad was a part of the team that designed the F104, anyone want to confirm this please?
I was amazed when I had a chance to actually touch the leading edge of F-104 wing. Sharp as a knife. No wonder they had to attach protection for the ground crew over them, or many people could get seriously hurt.

I mean have your looked at the Blackburn Skua??
It fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down...

Well, maybe you're right after all. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common.../icon_wink.gif
You have to admit the De Havilland Hornet I posted earlier is a looker though.
Those other airplanes are nice, but even MysticPuma has to admit that here are two examples of the most beautiful warbird ever.
http://www.352ndfg.com/images/Chino2...-TigerCats.png
Taken at the Chino Airshow, May 2009.
The 109 is probably one of the ugliest aircraft ever.
I adore it. All practical.
This one is from that same tree. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common...on_biggrin.gif

Sorry, Persecutor_352. Those would be nice-looking aircraft, but they were made by Gr****n, and therefore are ugly by definition. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common.../icon_razz.gif

SOW isn't even out yet, I'm already sick of the Emil.
But when SoW comes out, you can have your revenge. Show them what a good-looking aeroplane (or even a Hurricane http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common.../icon_wink.gif ) can do to an Emil when it is low on fuel and scuttling back to France...Quote:

Wat has that Brritish pig-craft to do with a buety!
But seriously, the MC 72 was better. To this day the World speed record for Seaplanes - 709(!!!) km/h. Try that in your Supermarine!
Hah! Real men fly aeroplanes with no forward view...Quote:

Typo - 'me' meant 'men'...

I googled it and nearly died laughing!
That is truly ugly~!

Exactly. The S6B has no need for a forward view, since the opposition must clearly be behind it... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies...very-happy.gifQuote:

Sadly, this philosophy, though useful for a plane that used the Solent as an airfield, proved a little embarrassing later when tried with wheels. Though the Hurricane may have not matched the Spitfire in elegance (or many other things), it did at least enable you to see which county you were landing in...
Having said that, the Spitfire does seem to have a unique two-stage braking system. The first stage applies maximal force to the wheels, and if that doesn't stop you, the prop digging into the turf usually does. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif
How anyone can fail to see the utter perfection of an aircraft that has built in stowage for a pipe and tobacco, I really don't understand...
