Hi all,
Do we all have a certain political view set in stone for life?
Have any of us changed our views and why?

I suspect Leitmotiv may be the best person to ask about that, though personally I went quite rapidly from being a Liberal-Party supporting teenager to a rabid Trot within a few years of starting work.
Clearly many people do change their views, or election results would only vary very slowly through demographics.
I'm sure I'll have more to add here, but I'd like to see others replies first.
Going from left to right through years here. Somewhere in the middle now, from both points of view.
As a kid, I never had political views of my own, and I pretty much absorbed whatever was on the TV or what my parent's said.
Things are a bit different now. I have my views on certain matters, but I can't ascribe myself to any one party. I don't like to comment on matters on which I haven't done at least some research about (something my former math teacher drilled into our heads). That basically puts me down the middle, but I sometimes wonder if that will change.
a whole lot did after the bush fiasco. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies...miley-wink.gifQuote:

I've changed my views over the years as I've gotten older. One viewpoint I've changed is the one about healthcare, where when I was younger, I never went to see the doctor hardly at all in spite of all the injuries I got. The only time I would go was when it involved a broken arm or something I couldn't fix, sew up myself, or otherwise just learn live with. I used to vote a straight Republican ticket, one reason was because I thought folks shouldn't have to look after nobody but themselves, and shouldn't have to pay for anybody else.
Now that I'm almost 49, I really need to get a checkup at least once a year whether I think I need it or not. Because of a preexisting 'potential problem' involving too many concussions from head injuries, the premiums that I would be charged for coverage are ridiculous in my age category. Right now, I pay the doctor approximately half of what he normally charge cash under the table. If there was ever to be any serious problems, I'm f**ked. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies...ndifferent.gif
I guess that you could call me a fiscal conservative who believes that the U.S. needs a fiscally responsible and sensible social support system in place for the whole thing to work efficently.
The only thing I can do now is vote for who appear to be the best snake oil salesmen who do what seems to be the least amount of damage. Politicians sometimes (okay, mostly...) have a habit of changing their tune once they gain office. The next time they need reelection they'll start shining the voters on telling them what they want to hear to get they support. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif
I get the feeling leit is going to come in here gloating about how he was turned from a hippie into a neocon when Ronald Reagan beaned him with a teargas cannister.
Silly boy
Yes.
But I have the distinct impression that Avro made this thread specifically so that he and his tea bagger friends could come in and say things like, "I USED TO BE A COMMUNIST BUT THEN I BECAME MUCH SMARTER AND BECAME A NEOCON." Sort of like lei--oh, I see that's already been covered.
I see no evidence of this, buy the way. Leit has made the claim that he was once a "far left activist," but he seems to have absolutely no understanding of the ideology that he supposedly once supported.Quote:

I suspect it's merely a ploy to be used in an attempt to lend some legitimacy to his viewpoint.
I actually have drastically shifted my views. In my teens and early 20s, I was pretty firmly in the center.
Then the neo-cons decided to co-opt the Republican party. Being diametrically opposed to the cancer representing the "new" right, my footing shifted considerably.
About the only belief I've held onto is my mutual loathing for the Democrat and Republican parties.
You're a poster child for the disease called liberalism.
Anyone disagrees, SMEAR!
It's called the Tea Party. Simply put, it's everyday people who have after years have come to the conclusion that our government has grown too large. Too many jobs-for-life government employees, many who are just sucking at the ever-shrinking tax teet.
We're not talking Fire or Police. It's government paper pushers pretending to monitor and enforce government regulations on everything down to the amount water used to flush our toilets.
Taxed Enough Already.
Government could be much smaller and the US would be much better off and you know it.
