New samurai hero idea - the Kumo
Given the reveal of year of the covenants, my idea for one of the new heroes would be a samurai assassin called the Kumo (Japanese for spider). This hero would be a ninja like the Shinobi. Before anyone complains that my idea is a knock-off of the Shinobi, I want you all to know that’s the approach I went for. Think of it this way, the Shaman is basically just a “reworked” version of the Berserker (in my opinion, the Shaman is way easier to use, is more predatory, and has way more opportunities to cause bleed damage). The Berserker and Shaman have similar concepts and weapons, but it’s their moveset, feats, etc. that makes them different.
Key visuals:
>Ninja clothing with minimal armor made of leather, wood, or lacquered steel.
>Wears kunai (and other weapons/tools) all over his body.
>Would have male and female options for the gender.
Weapon:
Twin sai. Unlike the Shinobi, who has the extended reach the kusarigama provides, the Kumo has to get up close and personal.
Themes/concepts:
>Designed for sneaking around/across the battlefield in order to kill heroes.
>Moves from one fight to the next.
>“Sneaky as a spider.”
>Edgier version of the Shinobi.
Fighting style/moveset:
>Mix-up/melee specialist: uses kicks, martial arts, etc.
>Quick and agile.
>Fast attacks.
>Short range, but high mobility.
>For a sprint attack the Kumo can do a flying kick to the enemy’s chest or head, knocking them down.
Possible feat options:
The ones in bold are my top choices for each tier, but feel free to comment if you think another one would be better.
>Tier 1:
>Bounty hunter: gain health & stamina when you kill another hero (passive)
>Stealth: hide yourself from the HUD, radar & aim assist (passive)
>Deadly: attacks deal more damage (passive)
>Iron lungs: you can still sprint when out of stamina (passive)
>Stun trap: trap that stuns enemies
>Tier 2:
>Smoke bomb: throw a smoke bomb on the ground that breaks the lock
>Shooting stars: throw multiple shurikens in an area in front of you
>Kunai: quickly throw a weighted dagger that does damage
>Thick skin: gain moderate damage reduction (passive)
>Executioner’s respite: the base healing of executions are increased by 50% (passive)
>Haymaker: punches, kicks, and throws now deal damage (passive)
>Doom banner: nearby enemies have lower defense and attacks while within range (passive)
>Tier 3:
>Sharpen blade: attacks inflict low damage over time
>Flaming arrows: fire an arrow dealing fire damage
>Nukekubi: gain stamina on successful attacks (passive)
>Slip through: dodging raises attack for a short duration (passive)
>Tier 4:
>Nail bomb: a trap dealing bleed damage in an area of effect
>Yama uba: gain health on successful attacks (passive)
>Fear itself: enemies around you have lower stamina regeneration and defenses
>Last laugh: drop a high damage grenade when you die unless executed (passive)
Custom feat idea:
>Vanish: turn invisible for a short duration.
>This would be a tier 2 feat.
>Lasts for 15 seconds.
>Ability will deactivate early if you perform an attack, take damage, step into a neutral or enemy-controlled zone, pick up a banner/offering, or use a non-passive feat.
>Similarly to other games with invisibility, other players will still be able to faintly see you.
>The animation would be the Kumo throwing a smoke bomb at his feet, and then disappearing.
>Poison dart: fire a blowdart that causes damage over time.
>This would be a tier 3 feat.
Possible perk options:
These are my top choices (with the one in bold being their default perk), but feel free to comment if you think another one would be better. Keep in mind that vanguards tend to have offensive and/or defensive perks, heavies and hybrids tend to have defensive and/or assist ones, and assassins tend to have offensive ones. However, there are some exceptions to this, such as the Tiandi, who has assist perks.
>Remedy: upon hero kill, heal +10 health
>Galestorm: upon hero kill, gain 20% movement speed for 10 seconds
>Early reaper: upon spawn or when revived, first attack deals 30% more damage
>Endurance: when gaining a renown level, receive 3% stamina cost reduction (max 4 gains)
>Survival instinct: when it critical health, gain 25% stamina cost reduction
>Crush them: upon hero kill, your next attack deals 30% more damage
>Head hunter: for each unique player/bot hero executed, increased max health +4 (max 4 increases)
Signature ideas:
>The Kumo does a series of back flips.
>The Kumo throws several kunai forward.
Execution ideas:
>The Kumo does a sweeping kick to the enemy’s legs, knocking them to the ground (face-up), and then stabs them in the chest with his sai.
Other info:
>Would have a lower health pool like the Shinobi, but compared to the Shinobi, the Kumo would have slightly more health.
